AN POST HAS appointed Fergal Leamy as its group chief executive.

Leamy will be taking over the role from David McRedmond, who previously interviewed for the role of RTÉ Director General.

Waterford man Leamy, who previously served as CEO of Glen Dimplex Group and Coillte, will take up the role in mid-August for a seven-year term.

In a statement, An Post said Leamy was appointed following an extensive competitive search process overseen by the board of An Post.

An Post Chairman Kieran Mulvey announced the appointment this evening and paid tribute to McRedmond for “his leadership and vision in building the Company to revenues of over €1 billion”.

Mulvey said: “I am very pleased to welcome Fergal Leamy as CEO of An Post. His exceptional national and international experience as a leader in the transformation of rapidly evolving industries will serve An Post and its people well in meeting the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

“He joins a strong business with a clear strategy and great people and I wish him every success in his career with An Post.”

Leamy said he is honoured to be taking up the role.

“An Post is a unique organisation with a trusted brand, deep customer relationships and a strong foundation for future success,” he said.

“The transformation and progress achieved by the company over the past decade has created a strong platform for growth and innovation.”

He said there are “exciting opportunities for An Post to evolve, innovate and create even greater value for its customers” as technology reshapes how people live.
