A CHILD HAS died after being struck by a car in Co Mayo.
At around 11.20am this morning, gardaí and emergency services were alerted after a pedestrian was struck by a car on the N59 at Eskeragh, Crossmolina, near Ballina.
The pedestrian, a male child, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The body of the deceased has been conveyed to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital and post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
The scene is preserved for examination by garda forensic collision investigators and local traffic diversions are in place.
The road is expected to reopen shortly.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Road users and pedestrians with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were travelling in the area between 10.40am and 11.40am are asked to make this footage available.
