GARDAÍ HAVE SAID an image circulating depicting them posing with drones purported to be for policing the Donegal Rally is fake.

No policing involving drones is planned for the events, gardaí say.

The doctored image shows members of An Garda Síochána standing behind four garda-branded drones.

The Donegal Rally is a weekend-long festival and is Ireland’s largest rallying event, beginning and ending in Letterkenny. It will take place from 19 to 21 June.

In a post to Facebook, a garda spokesperson said: “We are aware that this AI-altered image is in circulation with a post about the use of drones at this weekend’s Donegal Rally. This is incorrect.”

They said gardaí will carry out a “significant roads policing operation” over the course of the weekend.

“In place for the rally weekend including increased checkpoints, high-visibility patrols, additional marked and unmarked vehicles, Garda motorcyclists and the Garda Air Support Unit,” the spokesperson said.
