BONO’S SON JOHN Hewson is among the actors cast for a TV adaptation of Irish author Chloe Walsh’s best-selling book series Boys of Tommen.
Boys of Tommen is based in Co Cork and follows a group of friends as they journey through the private school Tommen College and prepare for adulthood.
It’s set during the period from 1992 to 2007 in the fictional town of Ballylaggin.
The books are intended for readers aged 18 and over and Walsh herself has said that they are not suitable for younger audiences, given that the series covers issues around sexual assault, childhood abuse, grooming and mental illness.
The series became famous thanks to BookTok – a subcommunity on TikTok dedicated to books.
From there, Walsh has gone on to top the New York Times’s best-seller list and Amazon Prime Video announced in February of this year that it was adapting the book series.
Amazon Prime Video will adapt the first two books in the series, Binding 13 and Keeping 13.
It will follow the “forbidden love story of Johnny Kavanagh, the star rugby player on the verge of a pro career, and Shannon Lynch, the talented but painfully shy new girl at Tommen College”.
Prime Video today announced the cast members and Bono’s son John Hewson is among them, who will play Gerard Gibson
Other Irish actors among the cast includes Jonathan Heed (Cormac Ryan), Alex Dunne (Hugh Biggs), Cathal Ó Síocháin (Ronan McGarry), Conor Sánchez (Johnny Kavanagh), James O’Donoghue (Joey Lynch) and Sophie McGibbon (Aoife Molly).
The series meanwhile will be directed by Irish filmmaker Brendan Canty, who last year released his directorial debut Christy.
Boys of Tommen will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide and is billed as part of Amazon MGM Studios’ “dedication to delivering book-to-screen adaptations”.
