On a day that saw more than 12,300 participants across the marathon, half marathon and 10K events, Ryan Creech and Heather Murphy took victories in the national half marathon championships, with Creech clocking 1:04:51 and Murphy 1:15:11.

"National Championships don't come to Cork as often as you think so this is really special to win at home,” said Creech. “It's such a well-organised event and I'm delighted to have my family here today.” 

Jake O'Regan of St John's finished second in 1:05:38, followed by John Travers of Donore Harriers in 1:06:54. In the women's championship, Hannah Steeds of Leevale took second in 1:16:46, with Fionnuala Ross of Armagh AC third in 1:17:02.

Ibrahim Samow of Ennis Track was first man home in the 10k, clocking 30:58 ahead of Niall Shanahan (30:58) and David Carter (31:44). Niamh Allen of Leevale proved a class apart in the women’s race, clocking 32:14 ahead of clubmate Sinéad O’Connor (35:28) and Katja Fischer (37:14).

“I love coming out running in Cork City,” said Allen. 

I went to UCC, so running down Western Road was incredible.

A total of 3,000 participants completed the full marathon, while 5,000 took part in the half marathon and 4,300 in the 10K.

From the early morning start through to the final finishers on Grand Parade, Cork city centre was filled with support as spectators gathered in their thousands.

More than 200 family members and friends of Ellen Cassidy, including her parents and siblings, also took part in the event in her memory, with thousands turning up in yellow and holding yellow flags in her honour – Ellen's favourite colour.

“On behalf of the entire Analog Devices Cork City Marathon team, Cork City Council and our sponsors Analog Devices, I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who made this year's event possible,” said race director Eamon Hayes.

"To the thousands of runners, joggers, walkers and wheelchair users who took part, whether you were chasing a personal best, running for a cause or simply aiming to cross the finish line, your determination and spirit were clear to see right across the city.

"We are equally grateful to the people of Cork, who once again came out in force to support participants and create the atmosphere that makes this event so special. That sense of encouragement and community is what defines the Analog Devices Cork City Marathon.”
