Tipperary hurling captain Ronan Maher is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken ankle playing with his club Thurles Sarsfields, Tipp FM has reported.
It appears the three-time All-Ireland winner suffered the injury in a challenge match with Waterford side De La Salle on Saturday. Tipp FM reports Maher has already undergone surgery on the injury.
An injury of that type would likely rule Maher out of Sarsfields' Tipperary club campaign. Last July, Maher was added to the Sarsfields wall of winners mural for players who have captained Tipperary to All-Ireland Senior hurling titles.
A broken leg previously ruled Maher out of the bulk of Tipp's 2022 campaign. He made a late start to Tipp's 2026 campaign after struggling to shake off injuries earlier in the year.
