New Apple transport features are customised for cities and towns.

Apple has brought its transport directions feature to Apple Maps in Ireland, enabling users to get correct information on metro lines, buses, trains and ferries.

The feature is now available on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Mac devices.

A spokesperson for Apple explained that the transport feature is customised for each city where it’s available.

Public transport? There’s an app for that

Users can plan a route, pull up timetables, get step-by-step directions or ask Siri to guide you.

You can even favourite a specific transport line to get up-to-date information and reminders.

The transport directions feature first debuted in 2015 when Apple unveiled iOS 9, and it began rolling out in cities such as San Francisco, London, Berlin, Mexico City, Toronto and New York. It also launched in China where it served up information on 300 cities.

To use the feature, just launch Maps on your iOS device, type in your destination, tap transport mode and voilà, it will give you information, such as what time the train or bus leaves, and how long it will take to get to your destination.

The move heats up the competition in the market between Apple Maps and rival Google Maps.
