Blake Krass breaks down the opening odds for the FIFA 2026 World Cup Round of 32 match between South Africa and Canada.
The first official matchup of the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is set. One of the host nations, Canada, will be taking on South Africa in the knockout stage.
Canada lost to Switzerland in its final group stage match, giving the group to Switzerland, and putting Canada in second place. Meanwhile, South Africa pulled off a big upset over South Korea to finish in second place in Group A and advance to the knockout stage for the first time in the nation’s history.
South Africa and Canada will meet Sunday, June 28, at 3 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
Canada opened as a -130 favorite in this match. South Africa, meanwhile, is +400 to pull off the upset within the 90 minutes. If you fancy a draw, it can be found at +255. These are just the odds for how the match will finish after 90 minutes, plus stoppage time. As this is now the knockout stage, there will be extra time, and if necessary, penalty kicks to determine who moves on to the Round of 16.
When it comes to the odds to advance, Canada is -360, and South Africa is +270. It would take a big upset for the Bafana Bafana to move on to the Round of 16, but they have proven they are up to the task. Meanwhile, this would be the first time in Canada’s history that they have advanced to the Round of 16 at the World Cup as well, so it would be a great achievement for them as a nation.
