Alex Hunter details some of his favorite long shot outright winner bets for the Cadillac Championship at the Blue Monster.
For the first time in a decade, the PGA TOUR is returning to the Blue Monster Course (par 72, 7,739 yards, Bermuda greens) of Trump National Doral in Miami, Florida, for the Cadillac Championship. The Blue Monster hosted the WGC-Cadillac Championship from 2007-16, with Adam Scott (-12) winning by one shot in 2016. The Cadillac Championship is one of the PGA TOUR’s eight Signature Events this season, so there will be 72 golfers competing this week for a $20 million purse and there will be no cut.
Below, I have featured two of my favorite outright long shot bets to win the Cadillac Championship on DraftKings Sportsbook.
After missing the cut at the Sony Open in his first start of the season, Hisatsune has been excellent, making 10 straight cuts and finishing inside the top-15 five times. The 23-year-old’s best finish is a runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open in January, which was played at the South Course of Torrey Pines, which is the longest course on the PGA TOUR this season.
This is encouraging for this week, as the Blue Monster is the second-longest venue of the season. Hisatsune also finished T-13 at THE PLAYERS Championship last month, which was played at another challenging Florida venue in TPC Sawgrass.
To win at the Blue Monster, you need to be a strong driver and iron player, as each of the past two winners here have finished the event top-10 in both SG OTT and SG APP. Hisatsune ranks top-25 in both SG OTT and SG APP this season, and if he can have a spike week with his putter, Hisatsune contending at the Blue Monster isn’t out of the question.
In compelling form, Novak is worth taking a chance on at these very long odds. In their title defense at the Zurich Classic last week, Novak and Ben Griffin finished T-10 at the team event. Leading up to this, Novak had finished T-14, MC and T-16 in his previous three solo starts.
That T-16 came at the RBC Heritage – which is a Signature Event like the Cadillac Championship – and at Harbour Town Golf Links, Novak carded a pair of 6-under 65s and he ranked third among the stacked field in SG APP. This marked the fourth time in his last five starts that Novak has gained strokes on approach.
Novak also finished T-7 at the Farmers Insurance Open in January at the lengthy South Course of Torrey Pines, proving he has the ability to contend at long courses like the Blue Monster.
