Sean Barnard details his top same game parlay for the Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Lakers NBA Playoffs Game 5.
The Lakers hold a 3-1 series lead over the Houston Rockets with the action returning to Los Angeles tonight. Houston avoided the sweep by winning at home in the previous game and will look to do the same on the road tonight. Game 5 will tip off at 10:00 p.m. ET.
Looking at the odds, the Lakers enter as 4.5-point favorites and hold -185 odds of winning outright on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Rockets hold +154 odds of winning outright with the game total set at 208.5 points.

The Lakers traded for Luke Kennard at the NBA trade deadline as one of their most impactful win-now moves. Across his 32 regular-season games with the franchise, the Duke product shot 44.8% from the perimeter and averaged 1.3 made three-pointers per game. His role has been scaled up in the postseason due to the injuries. He is attempting 5.0 three-pointers per game and making nine three-pointers through his first four games. Kennard shot 0-for-3 from beyond the three-point arc in the previous game, which is his lowest volume and his first time not making a long-range shot in this series. The Lakers will return home tonight, where role players tend to be more effective. Expect Los Angeles to get back to making it a priority to generate looks for the sharpshooter and for Kennard to connect with at least two three-pointers tonight.
There is plenty to critique about the Rockets’ offensive process, with this further magnified due to Kevin Durant’s absence. Alperen Sengun is responsible for running the offense after leading the Rockets with 6.2 assists per game across the regular season. Through the opening four postseason games, Sengun has tallied six assists twice. The lack of point guard play has been problematic for Houston all season, and it is Sengun’s responsibility to run the offense. Expect the Rockets to do a better job cutting off of the big man, compared to what led to the two assist performance in the previous game. Sengun has scored 19+ points in each game and tallied as many as 33. Expect the big man to get plenty of post touches and punish the Lakers if they begin throwing doubles. Count on Sengun to have the ball plenty and capitalize on each assist opportunity to tally at least six tonight.
In a similar way, LeBron James has taken on the point guard duties for this Lakers team while Luka Doncic remains sidelined. On the season overall, the 22-time All-Star averaged 7.2 assists per game. He has posted assist totals of 13, 7, 6, and 9 across the first four playoff games. James continues to win his battle with Father Time, but has shown an increased willingness to take a backseat as a scorer and lead with his passing. He put this on display in the previous game, attempting just nine field goal attempts and finishing with 10 points and nine assists. Austin Reaves returning would provide another offensive option that he will be eager to lean on, and the Lakers shot the ball much better at home so far this series. In the opening two games of the series, Los Angeles shot 52.6% and 46.4% on three-point attempts compared to 41.4% and 22.7% in the past two games. The Lakers have had success leaning on Deandre Ayton as a lob threat throughout as well. Expect James to have success spraying to shooters and tally at least eight assists for the third time in this series.
With their offensive concerns in mind, the Rockets have had team success attacking the glass at a high rate and generating additional possessions in the process. Amen Thompson is at the heart of this effort, with his athleticism shining against this aging Lakers team. Thompson averaged 7.8 rebounds per game across the regular season and has tallied as many as 11 rebounds in a game this series. The Lakers finished the regular season ranked 27th in rebounds per game and pulled in the sixth-fewest contested rebounds per game. The Rockets have a good habit of rebounding as a unit and making each of these opportunities difficult. But Thompson headlines this effort, and his athleticism allows him to sky for boards that the Lakers cannot reach. For Houston to have any chance of extending the series, expect an all-out effort on the glass tonight. Count on Thompson to lead the charge and pull in at least eight rebounds tonight.
