Garion Thorne provides an update on Spurs PF/C Victor Wembanyama (concussion) before Friday’s Game 3 vs. the Trail Blazers.
After sustaining a concussion as a result of a scary fall in Game 2, Victor Wembanyama’s status remains up in the air for Friday’s Game 3 against the Trail Blazers. However, the recently named Defensive Player of the Year will travel with the Spurs to Portland.

“He’s looking good. The update is that he is following each protocol and he is progressing and will travel with the team,” he said.
No word on his status for Friday or Sunday.
It still seems like Wembanyama clearing protocol in time for Friday’s tilt is a long shot. Recovery from concussions vary case-to-case, but often the process takes at least a week. In terms of semi-recent history, Kevin Love was forced to miss Game 3 of the NBA Finals in 2016 after taking a Harrison Barnes elbow to the head in Game 2 — a series where the stakes were obviously much higher.
The worrisome thing for San Antonio is just how crucial Wembanyama is to their team. The Spurs outscored opponents by 16.4 points per 100 possessions with the former first-overall pick on the floor in 2025-26. Without him? They outscored opponents by just 0.4 points per 100 possessions, with the squad’s defensive rating shooting up to 116.5. Not ideal, especially after losing in the final second of Game 2.
On the DraftKings Sportsbook, the Spurs are currently 1.5-point road favorites on Friday. From that line, it appears the book is banking on Victor Wembanyama being unavailable.
