Dan Johnson gets you set for the ninth episode of Steve Carrell’s new HBO show, Rooster.
Rooster is one week from the finale, and Episode 9 puts all three major lanes under pressure at once. Greg has settled into Ludlow a little too well: he’s thriving in the classroom and now gets pulled into the hockey team’s world before a key game, which is exactly the kind of campus validation he has been chasing since he arrived. Katie’s tenure push brings the story back to the Russo family dynamic, especially as the process starts revealing how deeply her parents have shaped her professional life. Archie, meanwhile, gets feedback on his book, which should force him to sit with the difference between the version of himself he wants on the page and the one everyone else has been dealing with all season.
Episode 9 airs Sunday, May 3 at 10:05 p.m. ET on HBO, with streaming available the same night on Max. The season has 10 episodes, so this is the penultimate chapter before the finale on May 10.
Episode 9, “Ludlow’s Fourth Hottest Professor,” doesn’t come with a detailed synopsis yet, but the title and timing tell the story—it’s a campus-facing episode, centered on Greg’s rising profile at Ludlow as the show moves into its final chapter.
It premieres on HBO on Sunday, May 3, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT, and it will stream the same night on HBO Max.
Season 1 has 10 episodes. HBO says new episodes will roll out weekly on Sundays through May 10.
The official cast list includes Steve Carell, Charly Clive, Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster, John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai. Additional reporting has also linked Connie Britton to the ensemble.
