Brendan O’Sullivan dives into his pick and prediction for the Miami Marlins vs. Washington Nationals game on Wednesday, June 3.
The Marlins and Nationals play the third game of their three-game series on Wednesday, June 3.
Both teams are -110 on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under eight runs.
Let’s get into a pick and prediction for this Marlins vs. Nationals game.
It’s been a rough stretch for the Marlins, who had lost five straight prior to this series with Washington. Miami is underperforming this year after over-performing in 2025. Things always seem to balance themselves out. It’s unlikely the Marlins catch the Braves atop the NL East, but every other team is within reach.
The Nationals are sitting around .500 after a miserable 2025 campaign. Their young stars are beginning to shine, though there’s still growth needed to become a playoff contender. Most notably, the Nationals need to establish a solid pitching staff. The rotation and bullpen are both weak. Andrew Alvarez is Wednesday’s opener, making his sixth appearance of the season and first start. He has a 4.02 ERA across 15.2 innings with one save. The rest of the bullpen ranks 22nd in collective ERA, while the starting rotation ranks 27th in the majors.
Miami’s rotation is even worse, ranking 28th overall with a 4.86 ERA. Wednesday’s starter is one of the team’s better pitchers: Max Meyer. The right-hander has a 2.97 ERA across 66.2 innings this season and had been playing mostly well in May up until last start. He allowed five earned runs and six hits in 6.0 innings against the Mets on Friday. The two starts prior were scoreless.
Meyer will have the challenge of facing the top offense in the league. The Nationals average 5.36 runs per game, which beats out every other team in the majors. It’s an elite lineup and the reason why the team survives its poor pitching.
The Marlins and Nationals are both even money for this series finale. While Meyer is a much better pitcher than anyone the Nationals have from the bullpen, Washington’s offense is potent.
Meyer isn’t exempt from poor performances, and this may be his second consecutive disaster.
