Matchweek 36 of the Premier League begins on Saturday as Chelsea travel to take on Liverpool in a game that sees fourth place take on ninth.

Both of these teams have had disappointing seasons, but at least for Liverpool they will likely find themselves in next season’s Champions League. Chelsea on the other hand are in free fall in the Premier League, and their only hope to salvage something from this season will come in the FA Cup final against Man City. Until then, they have a trip to Anfield on the horizon, and I don’t think it’s going to go well for the Blues.

In the Premier League, Chelsea have lost six consecutive matches. It’s one of the worst runs in their history, and it led to Liam Rosenior losing his job. In stepped Calum McFarlane for the rest of the season, and he started things off with a win against Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final. Then things went back to reality last weekend in the Premier League, where they were embarrassed by Nottingham Forest at home. All eyes for Chelsea will be on the cup final, and this game will likely not matter to the Blues too much.

Liverpool also don’t have much to play for in this game. Regardless of the result in this one, they will likely find themselves in a Champions League place come the end of the season. The Reds are in much better form than their counterparts, winning three of their last four league games. The sole loss was a close defeat last weekend at Old Trafford.

Anfield has not been kind to Chelsea in recent years, as they have not won there since 2021. I don’t think Saturday will be any different, and the Reds should collect the three points against a Chelsea team in disarray.
