Bryan Armetta shares his two favorite player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday’s two-game NBA play-in tournament slate.
It all comes down to this: two games to determine the final playoff spots in the Eastern and Western Conference. Friday’s NBA play-in tournament slate features a pair of intriguing matchups between division rivals. At 7:30 pm ET, the red-hot Hornets travel to Orlando for a date with the slumping Magic. As a nightcap, Steph Curry’s Warriors will hope to upset Devin Booker and the Suns.
Which players should bettors be targeting this evening? Here are my two favorite NBA prop bet picks on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday’s contests.
Few teams are in more turmoil at the moment than the Magic. A squad once seen as Eastern Conference contenders is now on the verge of elimination. Still, that’s not to say there isn’t any talent on this roster. Part of the reason for Orlando’s second half slide is the absence of Franz Wagner. The two-way forward only took the floor 34 times this season. During that time, he averaged 20.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists. In addition, he shot 48% from the field and 35% from three-point range.
Despite serving as a second option on offense, Wagner usually gets a handful of open looks from deep. That’s especially true with defenses prioritizing slowing down Paolo Banchero. The Hornets, while improved on defense, can be beaten from beyond the arc. Opponents are shooting 36.0% from three-point range against Charlotte, the 13th-highest mark in basketball. Wagner has drained two or more treys in three of his last five meetings with the Hornets. In this must-win matchup, another quality showing from the German won’t come as a surprise.
Wednesday served as a reminder to basketball fans everywhere: Steph Curry is still one of the sport’s best. The future Hall of Famer was in peak form against the Clippers, going off for 35 points on 12-of-23 shooting. In the process, Golden State can reach the postseason with a victory tonight. Injuries have hampered Curry all season, limiting him to just 43 appearances. In that time, he’s accounted for 26.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists while shooting 47% from the field. As always, the sharpshooter remains a constant threat from long distance. He’s knocking down 4.4 three-pointers on 11.3 attempts per game (39%).
Nobody is capable of going on a heater quite like Curry. With that being said, Phoenix is a step up defensively compared to LA. Golden State’s face of the franchise should make an impact as a scorer. However, increased pressure could lead to a productive outing as a distributor. Curry has dished out at least six assists in three of his previous five contests with the Suns. In addition, they’ve given up the NBA’s eighth-most assists over their last three games (28.7). As the driving force behind this Warriors’ offense, Curry should manage to get his teammates involved on Thursday. Consider playing this up to 6+ assists (+136).
