Garion Thorne details his top Shohei Ohtani player props for his start against the Astros on Tuesday night.
For the sixth time in 2026, Shohei Ohtani will toe the rubber for the Dodgers on Tuesday evening, this time taking on the Astros in Houston. However, Ohtani will not be pulling double-duty. The reigning NL MVP has not been in the lineup as Los Angeles’ DH in two of his past three starts as a pitcher, and that trend will continue tonight. Poor Dodgers. They’ll have to settle for just having a Cy Young caliber arm tonight. How will they possibly survive?
With that in mind, we’ll stick to pitching props as we go through the best Shohei Ohtani bets on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Ohtani’s cleared this prop in each of his past three starts, and for the season as a whole, the RHP owns a 28.6% strikeout rate with a 13.7% swinging strike rate. All that to say, we’re operating from an advantageous position with this bet. Ohtani’s one of the premier strikeout artists in the sport. He doesn’t need a “good” matchup — he’s matchup-proof.
Still, that’s not to suggest there aren’t some reasons for optimism that are specific to the Astros’ lineup construct. At the end of the day, Houston is an exceedingly right-handed roster outside of Yordan Alvarez. In fact, the Astros rank dead-last in MLB in left-handed plate appearances against right-handed pitchers (238), and 67.6% of those PAs are Alvarez and Joey Loperfido (quad), who is currently on the IL. That should mean a lot of right-on-right matchups for Ohtani on Tuesday. While the All-Star has struck out 22.4% of the LHBs he’s faced in 2026, that figure jumps to a whopping 36.5% versus RHBs. The sweeper is that amazing.
This isn’t a knock on Ohtani’s skill. It’s simply that this line feels a little off.
It’s difficult to throw six innings and surrender fewer than five opponent hits. Heck, Ohtani’s failed to do so in each of his past two starts, despite the fact he’s only conceded a combined one earned run in that span of time. The 31-year-old’s current .230 opponent BABIP would be a career-low. There’s some regression on the horizon, and it could very well happen this evening against an Astros lineup that has been quite good with the bats in 2026. To wit, Houston enters play on Tuesday leading the American League in expected batting average (.262). Over the past two weeks, the Astros are hitting .280 as a team. With that in mind, I’ll take a shot on this prop at plus-money.
