San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves prediction, pick ...
Keagan Smith · 2026-06-18 · via DraftKings Network

Keagan Smith gives you a preview, prediction and pick for today’s game between the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves on Wednesday’s MLB slate.

We’re now fully immersed into baseball season with the MLB taking center stage for the summer. The Atlanta Braves are a dominant side that are clearly contending for a World Series, but they recently lost their grip on the sport’s best record. Coming off a couple of series losses, they have a great bounce-back opportunity over the next few days against the San Francisco Giants. Wednesday brings a doubleheader, with the first matchup starting a hair after 2 p.m. ET and the later one set for 7:15 p.m.

Here’s a betting prediction and pick for game two of today’s Giants vs. Braves matchups courtesy of MLB odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Giants vs. Braves prediction, preview

San Francisco Giants

As a disclaimer, this article was written prior to the first half of today’s doubleheader, so all stats are subject to change. With that said, the Giants have experienced a season from hell in comparison to preseason expectations when they added some fairly significant talent to the roster. They’re just 29-43 and have reportedly begun fielding trade interest on some of their top names ahead of the August deadline. Sure, they’re 5-5 over their last 10 outings, but a -56 run differential on the year says plenty about the club’s status. San Francisco averages just 4.11 runs per game despite a .727 OPS that ranks 11th in baseball. The Giants slash .259/.310/.417 — today they face a RHP with a line of .258/.308/.423 for a .731 OPS in the handedness split. They also have an overall BABIP of .303, an ISO of .158 and 73 home runs. Why then, isn’t the offense more productive in terms of run creation? An 0.31 BB/K ratio is a big reason and ranks worst in the MLB thanks to a paltry 6.3% BB%, even despite having a lot 20.6% K%.

LHP Carson Whisenhunt gets the start today for his first appearance of 2026. In the MiLB so far in 2026, he has a 3.65 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 77 Ks in 69.0 IP. Last year, he ended a brief MLB stint with a 2-1 record in five games. He had a 5.01 ERA and 1.46 WHIP, striking out 16 hitters in 23.1 IP. While his sample size wasn’t large enough to rank via Baseball Savant’s sabermetrics, there’s a lot of blue on his page, which isn’t a good thing. Pitching has been a weakness for the Giants throughout the year and is a big reason why they’re in the hole they are, too. The relievers alone have an ERA of 4.35 that ranks 19th, a 1.45 WHIP and a 7.7 K-BB%.

Atlanta Braves

The Braves find themselves at the opposite end of the spectrum from the Giants. Atlanta has been incredibly successful so far this year and paced the MLB in winning percentage for much of the campaign, though the L.A. Dodgers overtook them in recent days. The Braves are 46-25 and have actually slipped in recent weeks at 5-5 over their last 10 games, but a +107 run differential obviously keeps them near the top of the sport. Their 5.06 runs per game rank fifth, as does the club’s OPS of .746. They’re slashing .255/.321/.425 on the year, though a line of .250/.317/.420 against lefties like they’ll face tonight brings a slight downtick. However, the Braves maintain a .291 BABIP and a .171 ISO with 95 homers on the campaign. An 0.39 BB/K ratio isn’t great, but the 20.7% K% is one of the lower in the MLB and is quite good. One more stat to note is that the Braves are excellent with RISP, garnering an impressive .806 OPS in such situations while hitting an MLB-best .285.

It’s RHP JR Ritchie on the mound for Atlanta tonight. He’s 1-1 across six appearances (five starts) with a 3.82 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 26 Ks in 30.2 IP. The sample size remains small, but he’s limited barrels extremely well and forced more ground balls than average. However, a 13.6% BB% is a major issue in the rookie’s profile. He’s backed by arguably the top bullpen in baseball though, which has a 2.82 ERA (first), a 1.11 WHIP (first) and a 16.8% K-BB% (third).

Giants vs. Braves pick, best bet

DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Braves as -136 Moneyline favorites in their second game at home today. The Giants are underdogs at +113 odds to win outright with the run total set at nine.

Best Bet: ATL Braves ML (-136)

With this being leg two of the doubleheader today, do keep in mind there may be some shuffling in both teams’ respective lineups and bullpens. That doesn’t necessarily mean to fade the Braves though, even with Ronald Acuna Jr. sidelined on the IL. Their batting order has been one of the best in baseball even when he’s not in there, and what really makes a difference in this matchup is the disparity in pitching staffs. Atlanta’s pen is deep and productive, and Ritchie has been pretty solid in a limited sample thus far. On the opposite side, Whisenhunt was not good at the MLB level last year with a 6.60 xERA and .277 xBA in his limited sample. While his Triple-A numbers are a sign for hope, he’s still making his first appearance of the year in the Majors today against a team that’s treated pitchers poorly all year. I expect nerves to play a little bit of a role here for him along with fatigue for both teams, which is why we’re going with a straight pick for Atlanta.
