Norway enters this game ranked 27th in the FIFA rankings, while Senegal comes in at 17th in the world.
Make no mistake, Senegal are a good squad, I just think the brilliance of Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard up top will be too much for them to handle. No team in Europe scored more goals than Norway in qualifying, and no player scored more goals than Erling Haaland. In fact, he doubled up the next leading scorer. Norway were in the same qualifying group as Italy, so it’s not like they coasted their way here. They entered the World Cup with a bang, beating Iraq 4-1. They have now won 11 straight competitive matches.
Senegal are no scrubs, so I expect this to be a competitive game. They were in a controversial AFCON final with Morocco, and have consistently been one of the best teams in Africa over the past few years. They put up a great first half performance against France, drawing 0-0 at the half. Unfortunately for them, things unraveled in the second half as they conceded three times and lost 3-1. Senegal have now failed to win three straight games.
Expect a close contest here, but Norway are just too good for a team like Senegal.
