Sean Barnard details his top same-game parlay for the Minnesota Timberwolves at Denver Nuggets NBA Playoffs Game 5.
Closing down tonight’s three-game NBA slate, the Minnesota Timberwolves will be facing off with the Denver Nuggets. The Timberwolves have taken a 3-1 series lead, but the outlook has shifted quite a bit following the injuries to Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo in the previous matchup. Tonight’s game will be taking place in Denver, and Nikola Jokic will attempt to fight back to even the series.
Looking at the odds, the Nuggets enter as 11.5-point favorites and hold -500 odds of winning outright on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Timberwolves hold +380 odds of winning outright with the game total set at 223.5 points.

The injuries to Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo change the outlook for this Timberwolves team in a major way. Ayo Dosunmu has been the biggest beneficiary of this and will see his most offensive responsibility since coming to Minnesota at the trade deadline. The 26-year-old exploded for 43 points in the previous game, hearing MVP chants in the process. This also comes after dropping 25 points in the game prior and playing 31+ minutes in each of the past two games. This is not a pure fluke, as Dosunmu averaged 14.4 points per game across his 24 games with the Timberwolves, carving out a real role in the offense. The Illinois product will now see the most offensive responsibility he has seen across his time in Minnesota, and he is playing his best ball at the right time. Expect Dosunmu to make the most of these opportunities and score 20+ points for the third straight game as he is asked to be the lead guard in the offense.
The game total is 4-0 to the under in this series thus far. Even with the total being the lowest it has been all series, with 223.5 the set line, expect the trend to continue. Through the opening four games, the combined total has finished at 221, 233, 209 and 208. Despite Denver being the best offense in the league across the regular season, it has been limited to 96 points in back-to-back games. Rudy Gobert has done an excellent job on Nikola Jokic, limiting him to just 39.1% from the field and 18.5% from beyond the three-point arc. It will also be a clear effort from Minnesota to slow the pace of play and make this a defensive battle, especially with Edwards’ absence in mind. The Timberwolves have no chance of winning a shootout with this Nuggets team. But they are a much better defensive team and have leaned on this as the blueprint to success to this point. Expect a clear effort made by the Timberwolves to play at a slow pace and for the game total to remain under 223.5 for the fifth straight matchup in this series.
Julius Randle led the Timberwolves in assists across the regular season, averaging 5.0 assists per game. He tallied 6+ assists in 33 regular-season games, including logging as many as 14 assists in a game. Playmaking has been a strength of Randle dating back to his time in college. With the primary starting backcourt not available for Minnesota, expect Randle to scale up his playmaking responsibility. This will especially be the case as the Timberwolves make an effort to slow the pace and make it a half-court battle. Count on a clear effort to play through Randle out of the post and for plenty of action to run with him as the primary decision-maker. Guard play and overall passing ability will be a weakness following the injuries, so count on Randle being the most notable figure to fix this issue.
Plenty of eyebrows were raised when Jaden McDaniels made some public critiques of the quality of defense the Nuggets possess. But the former All-Defensive team member has walked the walk following the comments. McDaniels averaged a career-high 14.8 points per game across the regular season and has seen this grow to 15.5 points per game in the postseason. With Edwards and DiVincenzo both sidelined, McDaniels will need to take on even more scoring responsibility. He has taken a massive leap in his offensive abilities this year, and the confidence has matched this. The Washington product willingly poked the bear in this series and has backed this up. With more offensive freedom and limited scoring options for Minnesota tonight, back McDaniels to lean on his athleticism and attack the basket at a high rate en route to over 16.5 points.
