Garion Thorne details his picks for DraftKings MLB Grand Slam Payout promotion on tonight’s slate.
DraftKings has a new promotion in May. It’s the MLB Grand Slam Payout.
The concept is simple. Opt-in and get a MLB Grand Slam Payout token. Use that token on a single wager or for a parlay on a player to hit a home run, and if that home runs ends up being a grand slam, receive a share of $250,000 in bonus bets — or more! Emphasis on the “and more” part of that sentence. We’re four days into the month, and with zero grand slams hit to this point, the prize pool for the promotion is now up to a tantalizing $1,250,000!
That begs the question: Who is hitting a grand slam tonight? Well, as always, I have my predictions and my leans. Let’s break a couple picks down.
Look, there hasn’t been a grand slam since this promo launched, which means we have to pull out all the stops. We need Coors Field.
I feel very strongly that Juan Soto is going to hit a home run tonight, it’s just a matter of getting the bases loaded before hand — something the Mets have done at roughly a league-average rate so far this season. That said, it probably won’t shock any New York fan to discover that the Mets are one of 14 teams that have yet to hit a grand slam in 2026. I guess that just means they’re due?
In 86 plate appearances, Soto is slashing .301/.407/.479 with a 99th percentile barrel rate (24.1%) and a 98th percentile expected slugging rate (.625). He’ll be going up against Michael Lorenzen, who has struggled significantly in the altitude since joining the Rockies’ staff. He’s also struggled with left-handed opponents. The 78 lefties that have faced Lorenzen in 2026 have combined to hit .417 with a .750 slugging percentage and a .512 wOBA. That’s a next-level red flag for a pitcher.
It would appear that Eduardo Rodriguez’s magical spring run has ended. The 33-year-old, who posted a 5.04 ERA in 2024 and a 5.02 ERA in 2025, was actually on quite the run there for a moment. Rodriguez started and won the gold medal WBC game for Venezuela, then started the regular season by not conceding an earned run over 12.0 innings. Had he turned back the clock? Had he unlocked something that could make him back into the pitcher that the Diamondbacks shelled out $80 million for? No. He had not.
Rodriguez’s last four starts have been a crash back down to Earth. It’s a span where the southpaw has pitched to a 6.19 FIP with nearly as many walks (13) as strikeouts (14). It’s also a span where Rodriguez is surrendering 1.74 opponent home runs per nine. I don’t want to get too complex here, but walks and long balls are sort of the ideal combination for those hunting grand slams.
Bryan Reynolds certainly doesn’t possess elite power, but the veteran switch-hitter does have four seasons with at least 24 homers. In 2026, Reynolds has started out hot, specifically against LHPs, slashing .282/.404/.487 with a .205 ISO and a 152 wRC+ within the split. There’s also the matter of the Diamondbacks’ bullpen, which has given up 17 home runs — a top 10 mark in MLB. Regardless of which pitcher Reynolds is facing on Tuesday, he’ll have the platoon advantage.
