Blake Krass breaks down his first round leader picks and best bets for the 2026 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club.
The Charles Schwab Challenge is the next stop on the PGA TOUR. Some of the best players in the world are headed to Fort Worth to take on Colonial Country Club.
This is a look at the best first-round leader bets to make for the event on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Charles Schwab Challenge has a solid field this year. Ludvig Aberg is the favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook, but there are also strong competitors like Justin Thomas, Russell Henley and Robert MacIntyre in the field. However, the field has been weakened by the new signature event calendar. Hometown stars like Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth are not participating, and neither is last week’s winner, Wyndham Clark. Last year’s winner at Colonial, Ben Griffin, is in the field, however.
Colonial Country Club is a par-70 course that ranges 7,289 yards. This is a full-field event with a standard 36-hole cut. This is a course that requires elite ball-striking. There are tight fairways, penal rough and some of the smallest greens on the PGA TOUR. The players who can keep their driver straight and hit greens in regulation will perform well this week.
Harry Hall has become one of the most fascinating players on the PGA TOUR over the past two seasons. He broke onto the scene last year by finishing T-17 in the end-of-year FedEx Cup standings. Hall ended up finishing sixth on the TOUR in Strokes Gained: Total and second in scoring average. That is mostly because he was the best putter in the world. Hall led the PGA TOUR in putting average and putts per round. He hasn’t quite hit those heights consistently this season, but he has still had weeks of pure excellence.
Hall started the year with a T-6 at the Sony Open, finished T-9 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and finished T-8 a couple of weeks ago at the Truist Championship. Harry Hall is one of the shortest drivers in golf. However, that is not going to punish him much here at Colonial. Hall can keep the ball in play, hit greens and give himself a chance to roll in some birdie putts. Hall has also played great here in the past. In three starts at Colonial, he has a sixth-place finish and a third-place finish. If Hall’s ball-striking is working on Thursday, he has a great chance to roll in a few birdies and lead after Thursday’s round.
Sungjae Im is coming off a strong T-9 finish at TPC Craig Ranch last week. That week was highlighted by an exceptional round of 61 on Friday. Im proved that while his consistency has fallen off over the past couple of seasons, he is still capable of turning in a great round and tournament. With that performance at Craig Ranch, Im now has two top-10 finishes in his last three starts after finishing T-5 at Quail Hollow as well. Sungjae Im last played this event in 2024, where he had a strong T-9 finish. He also had another top-10 finish here back in 2020. If Im carries over his ball-striking from last week, he has a great chance to go low on Thursday and lead after the opening round.
