Philadelphia Flyers vs. Carolina Hurricanes prediction, p...

Check out a prediction and top betting pick for Game 1 between the Philadelphia Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes in round two of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The puck drops on the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday with an Eastern Conference matchup. The Carolina Hurricanes cruised to a series sweep over the Ottawa Senators in round one and have spent the last week resting up for the next battle. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers upset the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games, advancing to an even tougher series as they prepare for this one.

Here’s a Flyers vs. Hurricanes Game 1 prediction and pick for Saturday’s NHL Playoffs action on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Flyers vs. Hurricanes Game 1 prediction, preview

First thing first — I wrote a full series preview that’ll hit some more in-depth stats on both teams which you can find linked in the related article linked below this section. Be sure to check it out for series odds and insights, but in the meantime, this piece will touch exclusively on today’s Game 1.

So, let’s dive in a bit. The opening matchup of a series is often something of a feel-out game as both sides try and get a grasp of how they match up with each other. The battle between Philadelphia and Carolina should be extremely intriguing if both teams play up to par since the two deploy pretty different game plans. The Flyers come in as an underdog on the road and for good reason, playing a physical, defense-first style while lacking high-end firepower on offense. On the flip side, the Hurricanes are a dominant two-way team that rolled out one of the NHL’s highest-scoring offenses and an excellent defense on the other end, utilizing the forecheck as a deadly weapon as always.

In theory, Game 1 should favor the Canes since they’re the better team by far. While their offense and the power play underperformed to an extent against the Ottawa Senators in the first round, they completely shut down their opponent and gave up just five goals across four games. Frederik Anderson somehow shook off a career-worst regular season to deliver a masterclass in net, garnering a 1.10 GAA with a .955 SV% while leading the postseason field with 7.6 goals saved above expected. He also saved every high-danger attempt he faced, so he’s clearly hot at the moment. While Andrei Svechnikov was held without a point in the first round and Nikolaj Ehlers scored only one, plenty of other names stepped up, led by Taylor Hall with seven points and Logan Stankoven’s team-best four goals. The upside of this offense when everyone is clicking is hard to deny, especially after averaging 3.55 goals per game during the regular season. Perhaps even more important is that Carolina has one of the best power plays in the league, ranking fourth in PP% at 24.9% prior to the playoffs.

As for the Flyers, it was admittedly surprising to see them advance past the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round. Despite a tough matchup against one of the NHL’s better offensive units, they managed to go up 3-0 in the series before closing it out in six games, largely holding the Pens’ attack in check. Philadelphia thrives on grinding games out, laying plenty of hits and limiting chances for opponents. It worked in round one as the Flyers conceded just 11 goals in six contests for an average of 1.83 goals per game. The credit goes in no small part to Dan Vladar, who performed to the tune of a 1.61 GAA and .937 SV%, himself ranking second in goals saved above expected with 6.9. The goalie duel should be a top storyline in this series, but whether this offense can hang in there is a bigger question. The Flyers have one of the lowest-volume attacks of any team and posted only 2.93 goals per game in the regular season, also sitting dead last in PP% at 15.7%. They also didn’t have a single 70-point scorer, though Trevor Zegras, Rasmus Ristolainen and Travis Konecny headline the group and are capable of stepping up.

Flyers vs. Hurricanes Game 1 pick, best bet

DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Hurricanes as -230 home favorites to win on the road on the Moneyline tonight, while the Flyers come in with +190 odds on the road. The game total sits at 5.5 combined goals.

Betting splits show 72% of straight bets on Carolina to win, 60% of wagers on Hurricanes to cover the -1.5 puck line, and 52% on the total’s over.

Heading into Game 1, it’s easy to see why the Hurricanes are favored so heavily. After all, this is a team that finished the regular season with a goal differential of +56. The Flyers had a differential of only +7, so there’s a big difference on the surface level in this regard. At its core, the matchup boils down to whether Philadelphia can take a toll on its opponent with physical play and maintain this excellent defensive form to hold the Carolina offense in check. With the Hurricanes getting a week off after closing out their first-round series early though, they should be fresh and ready to hit the ground running in this one. Their attack is already miles better than the Flyers’ in terms of both scoring and shot quality, and beyond that, the latter probably doesn’t have what it takes to keep up on the scoreboard unless Vladar continues on a heater.

In short, I like Carolina to take this one in regulation at home and start off with a 1-0 series lead. We’ll see how Philly matches up first before we start taking an underdog.

Best bet: CAR Hurricanes 60 min line (-130)
