(stats taken from DraftKings Sportsbook’s Stats Hub)
Sam Merrill 10+ Points (+263): This is an interesting one. Merrill can get as hot as anyone from behind the three-point line — he shot 42.1% from distance during the regular season — but he’s not been as involved in this series as he was against Toronto in the first-round. That’s partially due to injury, as a hamstring strain kept Merrill in street clothes for Game 2. However, Merrill’s averaged only 15.3 minutes and 6.5 points since returning to action in Game 3. Dean Wade’s been an on/off sensation in the postseason, while Max Strus has been locked into seemingly 25-to-30 minutes per night. There’s just not a lot of room in this rotation at the moment, so I have a hard time seeing Merrill’s role expand unless he sinks a few shots early on in this one.
Caris LeVert 15+ Ponts (+650): Here’s a prop that feels like a pretty strong overreaction. Like the aforementioned Merrill, LeVert can be a microwave scorer off the bench. However, we’re really not seen that happen all that consistently in these playoffs. Heck, when LeVert dropped 24 points on Monday night in Game 4, it was only slightly less than the 27 points he’d scored in total during the Pistons’ first 10 games in the postseason. This is a man who was DNP-CD in Game 7 against the Magic. He barely saw the court and didn’t score at all in Game 1 versus Cleveland, either. In general, Detroit’s been relying heavily on its starters and sixth-man Daniss Jenkins. I’m not sure we can simply pencil LeVert in for another 31 minutes in Game 5. That said, Levert to score eight or more points at -121 seems like a pretty sensible alternative bet.
Jalen Duren Double-Double, Yes (+130): Duren continues to just look lost in the postseason. After registering eight points and two rebounds in Game 4’s loss, the All-Star is now averaging a paltry 10.2 points and 8.5 boards across 11 playoff starts. He’s also shooting 49.4% from the field, which isn’t too atrocious, at least until you remember that Duren almost exclusively shoots from within 10 feet of the basket. It’s been bleak. If there is a reason for some optimism on Wednesday, it’s likely that this series is moving back to Detroit for Game 5. Duren managed a double-double in Game 1, then had eight points and 10 rebounds in Game 2. Still, he’s had only two double-doubles in the postseason as a whole.
Taking three of the most-bet player props individually is always an option, but why not roll them into a sam game parlay and get in on all the action at once? It’s a fun way to tie everything together — feel free to tag along.
