Philadelphia Phillies vs. New York Mets prediction, pick ...
Dan Johnson · 2026-06-19 · via DraftKings Network

Dan Johnson takes you through his preview, prediction, and best bet for today’s baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets.

The Mets and Phillies open their first head-to-head series Thursday night in Citizens Bank Park heat. New York arrives 33-41, still trying to make one loud afternoon in Cincinnati feel transferable. Philadelphia sits 40-34, steadier across the season, then freshly bruised by Miami’s 12-4 visit. The weather pushes the game toward offense, with afternoon heat near 93 degrees, wind, and early storms clearing into a heavy summer night. That setting puts Aaron Nola’s current contact problems directly under the lights. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for today’s baseball game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the New York Mets.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Phillies vs. Mets prediction, preview

Nola enters at 3-4 with a 5.86 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 71 strikeouts, 24 walks, and 13 homers allowed across 70.2 innings. The estimator gap gives him some dignity at 4.50 FIP, but the contact still carries too much damage for this park. Hitters have produced an 88.3 mph average exit velocity, 39.6% hard-hit rate, .357 wOBA, .326 xwOBA, and 9.1% barrel rate against him. His June line adds more strain: 14 innings, 16 hits, 10 earned runs, six walks, and three homers. He has lasted 5.0, 4.1, and 4.2 innings in those three starts.

The left-handed matchup gives New York its best path to five runs. Nola still leads with a curveball-heavy approach, mixing a 92 mph four-seamer, 91 mph sinker, changeup, and cutter behind it. The problem sits in the hard stuff. Left-handed hitters own a .911 OPS against him, and they have crushed his fastball for a .487 average and .974 slugging percentage. New York’s projected shape can keep sending left-handed pressure through the order, with Juan Soto, Carson Benge, Jared Young, Brett Baty, and MJ Melendez all pushing Nola toward the same uncomfortable lanes.

Soto is the headline threat because his season-long contact profile already looks built for this matchup. He owns a 93.1 mph average exit velocity, 49.7% hard-hit rate, .402 wOBA, .421 xwOBA, and 15.4% barrel rate. He also had three hits and two RBI in Wednesday’s 9-1 win, when New York finally stopped bleeding in Cincinnati. Bo Bichette gives the inning its current-form hinge after going 8-for-14 in that series. He has a six-game multi-hit streak, a 1.039 OPS in June, and a 1.183 OPS across his last five games. Francisco Alvarez also had three hits Wednesday, giving the bottom half another damage point beyond the lefty cluster.

Mets vs. Phillies pick, best bet

Sean Manaea keeps Philadelphia dangerous enough to make the full-game over a serious alternate. He enters 1-2 with a 4.78 ERA, 51 strikeouts, 17 walks, six homers, and a 3.89 FIP across 49 innings. His recent form is better than the ERA, with six innings, four hits, no walks, and two earned runs against Atlanta. He also owns a 3.33 ERA with 28 strikeouts and seven walks over his last eight appearances. The contact sheet keeps the Phillies alive, though: 90.7 mph exit velocity allowed, 41.7% hard-hit rate, .388 wOBA, .359 xwOBA, and 12.5% barrels. Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, Brandon Marsh, J.T. Realmuto, Bryson Stott, and Derek Hill all carry enough park-aided scoring paths to keep nine or 10 runs in view.

The bet stays with New York’s team total because it attacks the softer starter and avoids asking Philadelphia’s left-handed split to cooperate. The Phillies’ bullpen bridge also adds a usable runway before the ninth, with Tanner Banks, Tim Mayza, and Chase Shugart all carrying recent workload. Jhoan Duran changes the final inning only if Philadelphia gets the exact script it wants. New York can reach five through Nola’s lefty damage, Soto’s barrel profile, Bichette’s traffic, Alvarez’s lower-order spark, and middle-relief exposure.

Best bet: Mets team total over 4.5 runs at -115, playable to -120. Over 9.5 at -109 is the closest alternate. Mets ML +100 has value, but the run angle carries fewer bullpen complications.

Final score: Mets 6, Phillies 5.

Best bet: Mets TT o4.5 runs (-115) at Phillies
