If AD Mitchell is ever going to be a serious NFL player, this is the season to do it. As a second-round pick, there was a lot of pressure on him to perform in Indianapolis, and he could not meet those expectations. The Colts traded him midseason to the Jets, and he performed much better in New York. In eight games with the Colts, Mitchell caught only nine balls for 152 yards. In eight games for the Jets, Mitchell caught 24 balls for 301 yards. That was despite a disastrous quarterback situation for New York.
The Jets made some moves to improve their offense this offseason. They acquired a veteran quarterback, Geno Smith, to stabilize the offense. They also drafted Omar Cooper Jr. and re-signed Breece Hall. Garrett Wilson and Omar Cooper Jr. will be the Jets’ primary targets, but AD Mitchell will be the WR3. He will be the great deep-ball threat in the offense and could be a high-ceiling player for the Jets.
There were rumors earlier in the offseason that Quentin Johnston could be on the move. However, it now seems like he is staying put, and the Chargers have made it clear they want Johnston to be there. Keenan Allen did leave Los Angeles this offseason, however. That means the Chargers will have a wide receiver trio of Johnston, Ladd McConkey and Tre’ Harris. McConkey has been the team’s leading receiver each of the past two seasons. In 2024-25, Johnston was the WR2, but the spot was taken by Allen last season.
Quentin Johnston has been criticized over his three years in the NFL because he has an issue with drops. However, Johnston has more than 50 catches and 700 yards in each of the past two seasons. He also led the Chargers with eight touchdown catches last season. He should get an even bigger target share with Keenan Allen out of the picture this season. This could be a huge season for Johnston, and best ball players are respecting that.
Harold Fannin Jr. showed signs of incredible potential during his rookie season. He caught 72 balls for 731 yards last season, despite having one of the two worst quarterback situations in the NFL last season. He led the Browns in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns last season. The Browns even let longtime tight end David Njoku walk this offseason because of their faith in how great Fannin could be.
However, the reality is that the Browns’ quarterback situation is still a disaster. While they have some exciting young pieces, two of their starting receivers are likely to be rookies. There is so much uncertainty around this offense that it’s tough to depend on Fannin replicating his great rookie season. Fannin has also been dealing with an injury that has kept him out for part of the offseason workout schedule. Those two concerns have lowered best ball players’ expectations for Fannin just a bit.
Alec Pierce had an incredible season for the Colts last season. He has proven himself to be one of the best deep-ball threats in all of football. Pierce had his first career 1,000-yard season and finished second in the NFL in yards per catch. He was handsomely rewarded by a massive contract with the Colts this offseason. However, Pierce also had offseason ankle surgery that is expected to keep him out for the start of training camp. Pierce should be more than ready for the start of the season, but that injury has some fantasy players concerned. There is also some concern around Daniel Jones, who is returning from a torn Achilles. If he is not at the same level as last season, that could also have a negative impact on Pierce.
