Fresh off a wild double premiere, there was just a major twist in The Boys Season 5. Sam Connon breaks down everything you need to know about the superhero show before Episode 3 hits Prime Video.
The Boys is back for its fifth and final season, and it is just as gory and shocking as ever. Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s satirical take on superheroes only has a handful episodes left, but there are still a ton of storylines and characters to wrap up in the weeks ahead.
If you are want to get caught up on every last twist and turn, here is everything you need to know before Season 5 Episode 3 premieres:
Season 5 Episode 3 will premiere on Prime Video at 3 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 15. The episode, which is titled Every One of You Sons of Bitches, is expected to have a runtime around 1 hour.
The fifth season, like the previous four, will consist of eight episodes. The final six episodes will come out once a week until the series finale on May 20.
(Warning: Spoilers for The Boys Season 5 Episode 2 ahead.)
A-Train met a swift end in the season premiere, but The Boys still boasts a pretty big ensemble cast. There are a handful of new faces who haven’t made their debuts yet, plus a few impending crossovers from Gen V and some familiar actors for fans of Eric Kripke’s previous production, Supernatural. Here is a look at who is expected to be in the cast for Season 5 Episode 3:
In Episode 2, the Boys finally put the supe virus to use after two seasons of buildup across the franchise. Thanks to Dr. Sameer and and Frenchie’s work in the lab, they were able to take a few members of Teenage Kix off the board. Rock Hard, Jetstreak and even an awakened Soldier Boy fell right into the trap and contracted the virus in a contained setting. Sameer ran some tests on MM, Frenchie and Hughie and determined that humans could not be carriers for the super virus. But while they took that news that their plan was a success, they didn’t realize that Soldier Boy survived his exposure to the virus. The same cannot be said for Rock Hard or Jetstreak, but the cliffhanger twist wasn’t exactly promising when it comes to the Butcher vs. Homelander endgame. And while Countess Crow seemed to be playing the innocent card with MM, he did let a witness walk free.
If Soldier Boy is immune to the virus, then perhaps Vought’s scientists can find out how and give Homelander that same protection. We know from the Season 5 trailer that Homelander is going to be seeking out the original formula for Compound V, and maybe that’s why.
Given the moral dilemmas that have come up through the first two episodes, though, our heroes are going to have to make a choice about how to administer and distribute the virus at some point. Kimiko is against its use, while Starlight and Butcher are pro. Frenchie is playing both sides, as is Hughie. Among the other characters at a crossroads are a now-powered Ashley Barrett. The Gen V crew is still out there, too, and they could serve as important pieces on the board heading down the stretch.
The Boys Season 5 Episode 3 will premiere at 3 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 15. The next five episodes will drop once a week at the same time.
Season 5 is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video. The first four seasons are also available on the streaming service if you are looking to catch up, as are both seasons of Gen V.
The show’s creators have confirmed that there will not be another season of The Boys after Season 5. However, there are multiple spinoffs in the works. While there isn’t any movement on a potential Gen V Season 3, prequel series Vought Rising and The Boys: Mexico are both in development. Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy is confirmed to be returning for the former.
