It will be interesting to see what Mauricio Pochettino does in this game. The U.S. have already won the group, so this game is effectively meaningless. There is nothing to gain in this one, other than keeping the momentum and confidence going. However, I don’t expect wholesale changes, as the U.S. will want to keep everyone in form and clicking as they have been. It’s been a dream start to the World Cup for one of the three host countries. For Turkey, this World Cup has been a disaster. After losing both of their opening games, they have been eliminated and are just playing for pride. Both teams have nothing to play for in this one other than representing their countries at the world’s biggest stage. Turkey have been the biggest disappointment for many people in this tournament. They were in the conversation before the tournament as a team that could potentially win Group D. Unfortunately, their finishing has cost them big time as they have recorded no goals in both matches while recording a total of 62 shots over both contests.
Both teams have nothing to gain in this one other than pride, but one of these teams is at an all-time high in terms of confidence and will also be playing in front of a home crowd. I’ll take the United States to win this one and finish the group stage a perfect three for three.
