Zach Thompson gets you set for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson this week with his top fantasy golf cash game picks on DraftKings.
After an awesome PGA Championship, the PGA TOUR is headed back to Texas for its two-week stop in the Dallas area. The first tournament is just north of Dallas in McKinney, Texas, at TPC Craig Ranch. After some major renovations, the course will host THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson for the sixth straight year. DraftKings has a wide variety of contests and formats available. If you’re teeing it up with some conservative lineups designed for cash games, my three top fantasy golf cash plays to consider are Si Woo Kim ($9,900), Eric Cole ($8,100) and Blades Brown ($7,800).
Make sure to also check out my top-three pivot plays for tournament lineups for THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, if you’re looking for some less popular, under-the-radar picks. Pivot plays for tournament lineups are usually more aggressive, while fantasy golf cash game picks are safer with higher floors and lower risk. The picks in this post generally have higher ownership than my pivot plays, but they are good selections for contests where the uniqueness of your lineup is less important. Think of cash game picks as lying back and playing a par 5 as it was designed, taking three shots before reaching the green, searching for a solid birdie. Tournament picks are like going driver off the deck to try to reach the green in two — more reward if it works, but much more risk, as well.

Scottie Scheffler ($14,800) has a huge salary and he stands out so far above the rest of this week’s field. Building around that massive salary will be challenging, since the rest of your roster will only be able to average around $7,000. For a much more balanced build, Kim is a great place to start.
Like Scottie, Kim has a great course history at this event and plays it every year since he lives in the Dallas area. Kim has finished T2, T13 and T15 in the last three years at this event, gaining more Strokes Gained: Approach each year. His putter slipped a little bit last season, which caused his slide to T15, but he will be looking for another big finish this week.
Last week, his putter was rolling well and he gained strokes on his way to a T35 at the PGA Championship. It was a nice bounce-back for him at Aronimink after a disappointing T65 at Quail Hollow. Before that letdown, he’d reeled off three top-10 finishes in four events, including a solo third at the RBC Heritage and a T4 at the Cadillac Championship, which were both Signature Events.
Not counting Scheffler, Kim leads the rest of the field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, Total Strokes Gained, and Strokes Gained: Approach in the last six months, and he would be the clear favorite if Scheffler weren’t in the field. His shotmaking consistency and strong track record give him a high floor and high ceiling, so he’s a great anchor for your fantasy golf cash picks this week.
Cole is a very solid option at just over $8,000, and he brings a good blend of course history and current form. He is one of the steadier players on the PGA TOUR, so his skillset is a good one to target.
In most events, Cole loses strokes off the tee, but some courses still set up well for the shorter-hitter. He has had no problem going low at TPC Craig Ranch in the past, finishing T23 in 2023 and T5 last year in his two trips to this event. He lost strokes off the tee in those tournaments, but his short game and strong iron play compensated and carried him to strong finishes.
He comes back to TPC Craig Ranch this year with some good momentum after three straight top-15 finishes. He posted a T14 at the Valero Texas Open, a T6 at the Zurich Classic, and a T6 at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic, which was an alternate-field event two weeks ago.
Over the last 20 rounds, the veteran ranks fourth in the field in Total Strokes Gained, leads the field in Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green, and ranks 15th in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green.
Like Kim, his proven shot-making and course history give him a high ceiling and a high floor, so including him in balanced builds is a great way to go.
Just because we’re looking for conservative plays, doesn’t mean we have to be boring! Blades Brown is actually a relatively safe play, even though the phenom is only 18-years-old.
The youngster has proven he can contend on the PGA TOUR and will have plenty to play for as he looks to secure Special Temporary Membership. He can wrap that up this week with a solo 21st or better. He has been splitting time this year between the PGA TOUR and the Korn Ferry Tour, and over the last three months has logged five events on the PGA TOUR and four events on the Korn Ferry Tour. In those events, he has totaled four top-10 finishes in his last eight events, including a runner-up finish at the Tulum Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour and a T9 finish at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic two weeks ago on the PGA TOUR.
Last week, he finished T16 at the Colonial Life Charity Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour, and he ranks in the top 10 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, setting up multiple paths to membership as the summer continues.
Over the last three months, he ranks in the top 15 in the field in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, but that doesn’t reflect all his events since he has been playing so many events without ShotLink data.
There’s a little volatility from his lack of experience, but Brown is an exciting young star on the PGA TOUR and he’s been solid enough to be included in all lineups this week. He will likely be too chalky to be an ideal GPP option, but he’s a great fit in cash games, where having players with low ownership is less critical.
