Brendan O’Sullivan dives into his pick and prediction for the Athletics vs. San Francisco Giants game on Tuesday, June 23.
The Athletics and Giants play the first game of their three-game series on Tuesday, June 23.
San Francisco is a -142 moneyline favorite, while the Athletics are +118 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under nine runs.
Let’s get into a pick and prediction for this Athletics vs. Giants game.
Right when the Giants start to win games, they take a nose dive in the standings again. It’s seemingly impossible for the club to escape the mess created in 2026. They won three straight (one vs. the Cubs and two vs. the Braves) before dropping three straight to the Marlins. Before the wins, the Giants lost four of their last five. They’re seriously competing with the Rockies for last in the NL West.
The Athletics are familiar with playing in last place, though this season has been a lot better. The team is 38-40, which is tied for second in the AL West. Just 1.5 games behind the first-place Mariners, the Athletics can compete for a division crown this year. Some of that has to do with a weaker division in 2026, but a title last forever regardless.
Like San Francisco, the Athletics aren’t consistent. They’ve won two of their last six games, but had won five of six prior to this stretch. Opponent quality isn’t even a valid argument for this because most of the teams have been under .500.
Tonight’s series opener should be fun with Aaron Civale and Robbie Ray on the mound. Two inconsistent teams with two unpredictable pitchers makes for a wild game. In three starts in June, Ray has two scoreless outings and one five-run performance. Civale only has one start in June, allowing six earned on nine hits in 3.0 frames.
This game reeks of the over. Civale and Ray are wild cards, both pitching multiple scoreless outings this season while also imploding on many other occasions.
If you’re in the market for a moneyline, take the Athletics at plus-money, but my best bet is certainly over nine runs.
