Bryan Armetta shares his three favorite player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Wednesday’s three-game NBA playoffs slate.
It’s a three-game postseason slate this evening across the NBA. Getting us started will be the Magic, hoping to eliminate the top-seeded Pistons on the road. Elsewhere, Toronto and Cleveland will take the floor for a pivotal Game 5. Later, the Rockets will attempt to keep their season alive in LA against the Lakers.
Which players should bettors be targeting ahead of Wednesday’s matchups? Here are my three favorite NBA prop bet picks on DraftKings Sportsbook for today’s playoff contests.
Orlando’s miraculous postseason turnaround has been the result of several key contributors stepping up. Paolo Banchero gets most of the attention, but don’t forget about Jalen Suggs. The two-way guard hasn’t been the most consistent, especially on offense. In Game 4, the 24-year-old only scored five points on ghastly one-of-13 shooting (.077%). However, he’s still averaging 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists during this series. If nothing else, Suggs’ 32% field goal percentage is proof that he has the green light on this top-heavy offense.
In spite of lackluster shooting, Suggs has tallied at least 15 points in three of his four postseason appearances. The Pistons have remained stout on defense, but they’ve had a penchant for turning the ball over as well. Suggs, with his five steals in this series, has made a major impact in that regard. There’s also a good chance Franz Wagner (calf) can’t suit up tonight. The standout wing, when healthy, has functioned as a number two option on offense. His potential absence would leave an already mediocre Magic offense without much other than Banchero. Suggs is set up nicely to reach this total once again at home.
Just like that, two straight Toronto wins have evened up this first round series. Now, the Raptors will hope to reel off a third victory in Cleveland. If that’s going to happen, it’ll likely require another stellar stat line from Collin Murray-Boyles. It’s early, but the rookie has been one of the breakout stars of the postseason. Through four games, he’s recorded 17.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 66% from the field. Head coach Darko Rajakovic has noticed, cutting down starting center Jakob Poeltl’s minutes.
Even if CMB is coming off the bench, he’s in a terrific spot this evening. The South Carolina alum has tallied at least 25 points + rebounds + assists in three of his last four games. In his one outing vs. Cleveland that didn’t reach that total, Game 1, Murray-Boyles logged a series-low 20 minutes. The duo of Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen have been underwhelming this postseason, especially on the glass. The Cavaliers have delivered a 65.5% defensive rebounding rate in the playoffs, fourth-worst among all 16 postseason teams. Keeping that in mind, there’s no reason to think Murray-Boyles won’t continue to thrive in this matchup.
Kevin Durant (ankle) has already been ruled out for Wednesday’s Game 5. Granted, that wasn’t an issue for the Rockets during their 115-96 win on Sunday. Now, Houston will hope to pick up a short-handed road victory. One player that’s capable of increasing their offensive output is Jabari Smith. During the regular season, the wing notched 15.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists to go with 45/36/78 shooting splits. The Auburn alum’s efficiency has gone down in the playoffs (39% FG), but his counting stats have gone up. During the postseason, he’s accounted for 18.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
One area where Smith has been quite busy is from beyond the arc. The fourth-year pro is taking an NBA-high 9.0 three-point attempts per game this postseason, knocking down 39% of his shots from deep. The forward has tallied 3+ treys during three of his four contests in this series. It’s worth noting that Smith is averaging 3.0 three-pointers made on 7.6 attempts during his last eight meetings with Los Angeles. Now that KD is sidelined, Houston’s offensive pecking order is uncertain other than Alperen Sengun. Given his willingness to let it fly, JBJ appears poised for another impressive showing as a shooter tonight.
