Blake Krass breaks down how much rookies who are selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft will make this season.
The 2026 NFL Draft continues on Friday night! Here is a breakdown of how much money all of the second-round picks will make in their rookie season and how those rookie contracts work.
According to the NFL’s CBA, every rookie draft pick is guaranteed a four-year contract from the team that picks them. For first-round picks, there is a fifth-year club option. The value of those contracts depends entirely on where the player is selected in the NFL Draft. There is little to no bargaining room for players or teams to adjust those values. Based on the 2020 CBA, the rookie salary for players taken in the 2026 NFL Draft is $885,000. However, that only applies to a player’s actual base salary. The real money comes from the signing bonus, which is based on where you are drafted.
There is a scale that ranges all the way from the No. 1 overall pick to the No. 248 pick, which gets you more money by being even just one pick higher on the draft board. Only for the final 10 picks in the NFL Draft — No. 248 through “Mr. Irrelevant” No. 257 — are the rookie contracts worth the same value. There is no room to re-negotiate contracts until after a player’s third season. So whether you are a Super Bowl-winning quarterback in your first two seasons or barely see the field, your contract cannot be adjusted.
The first-round draft picks make the top-tier money. However, it’s not too bad for second-round picks either. The final pick of the first round will get a contract worth $16,168,614. The 33rd pick, or the first pick of the second round, will get a contract worth $12,937,488. So, while there is a decent step down by crossing over to the next round, it is still great money.
There is also not as large a gap between pick 33 and pick 64 as between pick 1 and pick 32. In the first round, the difference of a few spots on the draft board can be worth tens of millions of dollars. However, in the second round, the range sits around $500 thousand, with the 64th pick receiving a contract worth $7,722,792. Right around the middle of the pack, pick 49 will have a contract worth $9,804,168. So, while a few million extra dollars is, of course, a massive difference in someone’s life, the pay scale doesn’t have too large a disparity in this year’s second round.
