Zach Thompson gives his top studs and value plays for Wednesday’s six-game fantasy baseball slate on DraftKings.
After a busy afternoon of getaway games this Wednesday, Major League Baseball closes out the day with six games scheduled for the main DFS fantasy baseball slate. The slate starts at 7:05 p.m. ET with the first pitch in the Bronx and finishes with two matchups in SoCal to close out the night. As you make your MLB DFS picks today, be sure to keep a close eye on lineups and weather delays, but it shapes up to be an exciting night with a fun 12-team slate.
The weather in New York looks iffy for the Blue Jays-Yankees game with potential storms in the area. While there isn’t likely to be rain in other venues, it is definitely worth watching the wind, which is forecast to be blowing in at the parks in Chicago, Kansas City and St. Louis. On the other hand, the forecast calls for winds blowing out in Anaheim and San Diego. Make sure to consider the environment when making your MLB DFS picks.
Let’s look through the 12 teams in the player pool and pick out some top studs and values for your MLB DFS lineups on DraftKings this Wednesday. This article was written before starting lineups were announced and with all six games still on the board.

Shohei Ohtani, Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres, $11,000 — Ohtani is the premium pay-up pitcher on the slate, especially with the weather uncertainty in New York for Cam Schlittler ($10,700) and Trey Yesavage ($8,500). Ohtani has been outstanding all year on the mound, posting a sterling 0.82 ERA, 2.39 FIP and 0.82 WHIP, along with 50 strikeouts in 44 innings.
He earned 32.15 FPTS in his last start against the Giants and has at least 24 FPTS in each of his last six starts. He has at least seven strikeouts in each of his last five starts and has worked at least six innings in each of his seven starts this season. He has been consistently excellent and has only allowed two earned runs all season in his 19 road innings. The Padres’ offense has been inconsistent this season, ranking in the bottom 10 in the majors in runs scored and hitting an MLB-low .222 as a team. They also have a top-10 K%, making them a solid matchup to start Shohei against on Wednesday night.
Aaron Civale, Athletics at Los Angeles Angels, $6,500 — One quick way to balance out spending up on Ohtani is by using Civale as your other starting pitcher. The veteran righty has won each of his last three starts for the A’s, averaging 16.3 FPTS in those three outings. He has a solid 2.70 ERA on the season, and he has thrived on the road away from Sutter Health Park, posting a 2.08 road ERA and averaging 17.2 FPTS in his five road starts.
The Angels are a great matchup for him in Anaheim on Wednesday, since they have only scored a total of 13 runs in their last six games while hitting .166 with a 27.3% K%. They passed the Rockies for the highest K% in the majors, and Civale has a good chance to continue his road success in this matchup on Wednesday. He doesn’t have nearly the dominant ceiling of Shohei, but his veteran consistency makes him a strong value.
C Shea Langeliers, Athletics at Los Angeles Angels, $5,800 — There are more consistent value bats at the other infield positions, so oftentimes it makes sense to pay all the way up for an elite option behind the plate. Langeliers is averaging over 10 FPTS per game this season and is hitting an impressive .328 with 12 homers, a .260 ISO and a .425 wOBA. He’s 20-for-57 (.357) in his last 14 games with four doubles, four homers and a 17.0% barrel rate. Last year, opposing starter Jack Kochanowicz ($6,000) struggled badly against lefties, but this year, righties have done most of the damage against him, including hitting three of the four homers he has allowed, even though lefties have more plate appearances. Typically, Langeliers hits near the top of the order and will be in a great matchup as the A’s try to secure the series win in Anaheim after splitting the first two games in the series.
2B/3B Nick Sogard, Boston Red Sox at Kansas City Royals, $2,400— With Trevor Story on the injured list, the Red Sox are shuffling their infield and opening a spot for the switch-hitting Sogard, who has started each of the last three games for Boston. He has hit safely in each of those three starts, going 3-for-11 (.273) with a double, a walk and an RBI. He hasn’t attempted a stolen base yet but does bring some speed potential after swiping four bases in 36 games in Triple-A this season while hitting .269 with five homers and a .397 wOBA. Sogard is a great value play with multiple positional eligibility for Wednesday night, and he doesn’t have to do much to return excellent value since his salary is barely over the minimum.
Jarren Duran, Boston Red Sox at Kansas City Royals, $4,000 — Duran will likely join Sogard in their matchup this Wednesday night against righty Michael Wacha ($8,000). Wacha has been solid this season, but he has given up multiple runs in four of his last five starts, surrendering 15 runs and five home runs in 30 innings over that span. Duran is still only hitting .189 in his 43 games this season but has been picking it up on the Sox’ current road trip. In his last four games, he is 5-for-14 (.357) with three doubles, a home run and a stolen base. He is coming off a massive 34 FPTS on Tuesday and has averaged 13.3 FPTS per game over his last five contests. He offers both power and speed upside and comes at a salary that isn’t elite, even though his production can be.
Gavin Sheets, San Diego Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers, $3,000 — Even against Ohtani, Sheets is too good a value to pass up. He has exceptional plate discipline and has worked 11 walks in his last 22 games while also going 10-for-29 (.345) with a double, four homers, seven runs scored and eight RBIs. He even added a stolen base to help him average 14.1 FPTS per game over his last 10 contests. While Sheets is in a tough matchup against Ohtani, he can still be a solid value in the outfield or at 1B since he always finds ways to contribute while bringing a very high ceiling as well.
