The NASCAR Cup Series Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma is on Sunday, and DraftKings is offering a new way to play fantasy NASCAR. The game is simple. Build a “Pick Set” (2+ drivers) and decide if they will outperform their stat projections. Here is some advice to help build your DraftKings Pick6 Pick Sets.
There is a strong argument to fade Kyle Larson in daily fantasy contests on DraftKings. Road course racing is volatile. Sonoma might be the calmest road course, but it’s still stock cars turning right. On top of that, Larson has been snakebitten. Wrecks, technical failures and all-around bad luck have doomed one of the best road course drivers despite some of the best road course equipment. The fade is a leverage play. Even if Larson’s luck turns around and he earns a top-5 finish, lap-led and fast-lap points do not come easily with elite road course drivers filling the field.
This isn’t a DFS pick. It’s simply a pick based on skill, not luck. Larson has the skill and starting position to earn another top-5 at Sonoma. Skill and experience matter at Sonoma. Luck also matters, but Larson’s luck has been lacking. That lack of luck looks to have left him. He returned to his home state last week and earned a podium finish at the novel naval base road course in San Diego. Pick skill and fade luck.
The hype train is real. NASCAR is desperate for a star. Vanilla drivers dominate the series. The personalities are gone. It’s corporate. It’s professional. It’s a job. Cup Series champions are Bill Belichick behind a wheel. Hocevar is talented, but he saw an angle. A seat and sponsor are secured by going full gimmick. He’s a WWE superstar who suddenly changed his name and attire. The fans love it. The media loves it. But that doesn’t make a driver fast. More importantly, it doesn’t make the kid who honed his skills on short tracks a road course expert. His average finish in 14 Cup Series road course races is 22nd.
Elliott is the opposite of Carson Hocevar. A fast hot lap at Sonoma doesn’t make a driver an exceptional road course driver. Results matter. Elliott is one of the best road course drivers in the history of NASCAR. There is a strong argument that he is the best ever. His stats are undeniable. He’s won everywhere, and Sonoma is on that list. In the Gen-7 era, Elliott has finished third, fourth, fifth and eighth. His starting position is not ideal, but 18th is hardly buried in the field.

Pick6 is a peer-to-peer fantasy variant where you build a lineup (your “Pick Set”) of 2+ players and select whether you believe each will outperform their listed stat projection. Enter your Pick Set in Pick6 contests to compete against other users. Get enough picks correct and win a share of cash prizes.
Create a Pick Set by choosing 2+ players from the same sport and Pick Group (a set of picks available from a group of set competitions). For each player, simply select if you think they’ll have more or less than their listed stat projection. In each Pick Set, you can not pick the same player twice and you must pick players from at least two different teams.
Once you finalize your Pick Set, choose your entry fee amount. Your entries will be automatically distributed into available contests, subject to your confirmation.
When the games go live, use the My Picks tab to follow your picks in real time to track how your players are performing against their projections and how they stack up against other users.
Make enough correct picks and win a share of the contests’ guaranteed prizes. Any prizes won will be credited to your DraftKings account after contests are finalized.
