MLB DFS Picks: Three must-start fantasy baseball players ...
Cooper Albers · 2026-06-28 · via DraftKings Network

Cooper Albers selects three must-start fantasy baseball players for Sunday’s 11-game MLB DFS slate on DraftKings.

All 30 MLB clubs are in action on Sunday, highlighted by an 11-game afternoon slate loaded with firepower to fuel your DFS lineups.

From bona fide stars to stealthy value plays, let’s take a look at three must-starts for Sunday afternoon.

Set your DraftKings fantasy baseball lineups here before 1:35 p.m. ET: MLB $150K Bat Flip [$50K to 1st].

SP Jesus Luzardo, Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets ($9,600)

Don’t give up on Jesus Luzardo just yet. Yes, the southpaw fireballer is liable for a wince-inducing 4.39 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP in 16 starts (92.1) for the Phillies amid a turbulent 2026 campaign. But those surface-level numbers don’t even begin to tell the full story. Indeed, Luzardo has arguably been the sport’s primary victim of batted-ball mishaps this season — saddled with the second-highest BABIP in MLB (.345).

A quick glance under the hood uncovers ace-level stuff. Luzardo, 28, heads into Sunday ranking 11th in the majors in xERA (3.24), 16th in FIP (3.13), fifth in xFIP (3.01), and fourth in strikeouts per nine innings (10.72). His Baseball Savant profile is about as red as his Phillies cap.

Luzardo has yielded just four earned runs over his last three starts, holding a 1.86 ERA with a whopping 30 strikeouts across 19.1 innings during that stretch. Now he gets a date with the woeful Mets, who this season sit 27th in batting average, 28th in wRC+, and 29th in wOBA.

OF Yordan Alvarez, Houston Astros at Detroit Tigers ($6,000)

For the first time, maybe all season, Yordan Alvarez has looked human — hitless in his last three games. But there’s nothing a scheduled off-day on Saturday can’t fix. The American League MVP frontrunner returns to the lineup for Sunday’s series finale in Detroit, recharged and ready to resume his torrid 2026.

The three-time All-Star, 28, leads MLB with a 1.046 OPS this season, while actively challenging for the first triple crown since Miguel Cabrera in 2012 — and second since the 1960s. Alvarez is tied for the league lead in home runs (25) while sitting second in batting average (.314) and third in RBIs (56). And despite his recent mini-slump, he strolls into Sunday hitting .349 since the beginning of June.

It’s difficult to name a more formidable opponent than Alvarez for right-handed pitchers — especially ones named Jack Flaherty. Detroit’s struggling right-hander heads into his first game back from the 15-day injured list (ankle) with a swollen 5.35 ERA (4.64 xERA) and a 1.57 WHIP in 15 starts (65.2 IP) this season. He ranks in the bottom ten percent of MLB starters in ground-ball rate, hard-hit rate, and average exit velocity. With Alvarez looming, that all feels like some wicked foreshadowing.

OF Dominic Canzone, Seattle Mariners at Cleveland Guardians ($3,800)

Finding Dominic Canzone in the value bin feels like spotting Air Jordans at Goodwill. Seattle’s lefty-slugging platoon of boom has posted an exceptional .902 OPS — with 11 of his 12 home runs — against righties in 2026. He ranks in the top ten percent or better of MLB in xwOBA (.383), xBA (.286), xSLG (.531), average exit velocity (93 mph), and barrel rate (16.1%).

Oh, and he’s turned up his game sliders over the last month. Since May 24, the 28-year-old outfielder has been hitting .321 with eight home runs and 14 RBIs — ranking fourth in MLB in OPS (1.096) and third in wRC+ (205) in that span.

Canzone heads into Sunday’s series finale in Cleveland — his hometown — with a favorable matchup against the fizzling Gavin Williams. While the Guardians right-hander has posted a decent 3.82 ERA with gaudy strikeout numbers this season, those metrics are accompanied by a 4.52 xERA and some of the loudest contact around. A string of turbulent outings has Williams staked to a 6.64 ERA in four starts (20.1 IP) since the beginning of June.
