Bryan Armetta shares his three favorite player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday’s three-game NBA playoffs slate.
The NBA playoffs roll on tonight with another three-game slate of Game 3’s. To start, it’ll be the Celtics battling the rival 76ers in Philadelphia. Later, the Rockets will attempt to earn their first win of the series vs. Los Angeles. To wrap things up, the Spurs will visit the Trail Blazers in Portland.
Which players are worth consideration ahead of tonight’s primetime matchups? Here are my three favorite NBA prop bet picks on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday’s postseason contests.
Jayson Tatum is Boston’s most talented player, but Jaylen Brown has been the team’s best player this season. While that distinction might not feel important, JB has been a statistical monster all year. Through 71 games this season, the wing is averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 48% from the field. The veteran’s success has continued in the postseason. Brown has notched a combined 62 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists over two games against Philadelphia. Those numbers have been huge, especially given Tatum’s inconsistent scoring during this series.
With all that being said, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse knows how to scheme up a successful defense. It wouldn’t be a shock if his squad adjusts and forces the ball out of Brown’s hands. Still, that shouldn’t prevent the five-time All-Star from making an impact on Friday. Philadelphia is allowing the NBA’s seventh-most rebounds (54.7) and ninth-most assists (27.5) per game to opponents. In five of Brown’s last eight meetings with the Sixers, he’s notched at least 11 rebounds + assists. The Celtics haven’t been as effective with their big men on the floor, which could mean more small-ball lineups going forward. As a result, there should be less internal competition than usual on the glass. Add it all up, and this evening has all the makings of another stat-stuffing outing.
If there was anyone that’s made a name for themselves this postseason, it’s Luke Kennard. Granted, the ninth-year pro is far from an afterthought. For years, he’s been seen as one of the association’s better shooters. However, the 29-year-old’s recent stretch with the Lakers has turned some heads. This postseason, Kennard has recorded 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. As always, he’s done so with efficient shooting splits (65/73/80). The production has been needed for a Los Angeles squad without Luka Doncic (hamstring) and Austin Reaves (oblique).
Speaking of Reaves, there’s a good chance he suits up this evening in Houston. Should that occur, the Lakers would have a true co-star alongside LeBron James. That’s good news for the Purple and Gold, but it means less usage for Kennard. To be fair, regression was likely inevitable regardless. The Rockets are a stout defensive unit, allowing the fourth-fewest points (109.9) and fifth-fewest three-pointers made (12.3) per game. In 26 games played alongside Reaves this season, Kennard has scored 15+ points only three times. Could the sharpshooter deliver a third straight standout performance tonight? Sure, but it doesn’t appear very likely.
For Friday’s final contest, the Spurs will look to avenge a narrow home loss in Game 2. Heading up to tip-off, the status of Victor Wembanyama (concussion) will be something to monitor. Still, the West’s no. 2 seed isn’t lacking in firepower; De’Aaron Fox is capable of carrying this offense. As the most experienced member of San Antonio’s core, the guard feels primed for a breakout game tonight. Through two games this postseason, he’s averaging 17.0 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 42% from the field.
Fox’s scoring hasn’t been anything to write home about in the playoffs. However, the former All-Star is an underrated play maker. He dished out six or more assists in 40 of his 72 games during the regular season. The Trail Blazers wield an above average perimeter defense, so this won’t be a walk in the park. However, they also plays at the NBA’s tenth-quickest pace on offense (100.5). Fox, one of the fastest players on Earth, should have several opportunities to find open teammates in this one. With or without Wembanyama, San Antonio’s other star should make his presence felt tonight.
