Blake Krass breaks down the betting odds surrounding where former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson will be taken in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The 2026 NFL Draft begins tonight! This is a look at where former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is most likely to get drafted. You can bet on the NFL Draft on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Ty Simpson is one of the more fascinating prospects in this year’s NFL Draft. He is the clear QB2 in the draft class. However, what makes him a unique prospect is how different he is from the other prospects around him. QB1 Fernando Mendoza is on another level and is the consensus No. 1 overall pick in this draft. Simpson is a borderline first-round pick, but other prospects like Drew Allar, Carson Beck and Garrett Nussmeier are a clear step down from him as prospects.
Simpson showed signs of greatness at Alabama. However, many reports indicated that Simpson was playing hurt for most of last season. If those reports are true, it’s unclear how high Simpson’s ceiling could be if he is fully healthy. However, if those reports are exaggerated, Simpson might not have as high a ceiling as many hoped. Simpson is just in a strange no-man’s land where some team will just have to take a shot on him before somebody else does. Once it gets to that third tier of Nussmeier and Allar, there could be a bit of a run on those quarterbacks. However, it will be a waiting game through the second half of the first round and potentially the start of the second round to see who is willing to take the risk and pull the trigger on Simpson.

Ty Simpson’s over/under draft position is set at 24.5. However, that number is heavily juiced to the over. One team that could take a shot on Simpson is the Steelers at No. 21. However, with Aaron Rodgers likely returning for one more run, the Steelers should use that pick on a piece that will help them win now. The Browns are the team picking 24th and could also look at Simpson. Although, after drafting two quarterbacks last year, it would be overkill to take another one in the first round this year. That is why Simpson is likely to go 25th or higher.

While he is not expected to be a top-24 pick, Simpson is -200 to go in the first round. That means his most likely destination is somewhere between the 25th pick and the 32nd pick. The Dolphins are picking in that range and could be in the quarterback market. However, the more likely scenario would be someone like the Cardinals or Jets trading up a few picks from the top of the second round to the end of the first round to take Simpson.

The Cardinals are the betting favorite to draft Ty Simpson. Kyler Murray has moved on to Minnesota, leaving a vacancy at quarterback in Arizona. Jacoby is expected to return to Arizona with a chance to start, but he is holding out from offseason workouts. Brissett expects to enter the season as the starter and wants to be paid appropriately as a starter. With all of that uncertainty, the Cardinals might just want to draft a quarterback to pair with their new head coach. Simpson could come in and start right away, or if things get sorted out with Brissett, Simpson could start the season on the sidelines learning from a great veteran.
The Jets are also in the quarterback market, looking for a young signal-caller to back up Geno Smith and eventually take over the reins. The Jets have the 33rd pick, so if Simpson makes it through the first round, the Jets will get the first crack at him.
However, my best bet is for the Dolphins to draft Simpson. At +2000, there is too much value there to pass up the bet. In the back end of the first round, they are the only team with a questionable quarterback situation. They just paid up for Malik Willis to be the new QB1 with Tua Tagovailoa off to Atlanta. However, it is still unproven if Willis will be successful as the main man for the whole season. Behind him is last year’s draft pick, Quinn Ewers. The Dolphins could roll with Ewers and Simpson behind Willis. They could simultaneously develop the two young players and see which one seems the most capable of taking over the offense in the future.
