Alex Hunter details his best NBA player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday’s NBA playoff game between the Knicks and Hawks.
The Knicks and Hawks continue their first-round playoff series with Game 3 in Atlanta on Thursday. On DraftKings Sportsbook, New York is favored by 1.5 points and this game carries a total of 216.5 points.
Let’s dive into three of my favorite player prop bets for tonight’s contest.
McCollum hit a baseline jumper in the first three minutes of Game 2 and he has scored at least two points in the first three minutes of all three of his matchups vs. the Knicks since joining the Hawks in January. Since being traded to the club, McCollum is averaging 1.6 PPG in the first three minutes while shooting a terrific 65% from the field and garnering a 23.8% usage rate.
The veteran has scored at least two points in the first three minutes of seven of his last 10. McCollum led the Hawks with 26 and 32 points in the first two games of this series with New York, as he has been exposing Jalen Brunson’s poor defense often. When guarded by Brunson, McCollum is shooting 9-of-12 from the field for 22 points. Right from the jump, McCollum should be hunting out Brunson in Game 3 and McCollum should open this contest with another early basket.
Okongwu has topped 20.5 PR in six of his last 10, including the first two games of this series vs. the Knicks. In general, the big man has been excellent vs. New York this season. In five matchups, Okongwu is averaging 20 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while shooting 56% from the field and 53% from beyond the arc.
Included in this is a 31-point and 14-rebound showing in December, and only once in these five matchups vs. the Knicks has Okongwu not surpassed 20.5 PR. New York’s kryptonite this season has been competing away from Madison Square Garden and back on his home floor in Atlanta tonight, Okongwu’s success vs. the Knicks should continue.
Brunson’s rebounding line continues to be too high. The guard’s line was also 3.5 rebounds for Game 2 and he only finished with two rebounds across 35 minutes. Brunson is only averaging 3.3 rebounds on 6.8 rebound chances per game this season and he has stayed under 3.5 rebounds in four of his five matchups with the Hawks.
Brunson has fallen short of 3.5 rebounds in seven of his last 10 entering tonight and him exceeding 3.5 rebounds in Game 3 would be a surprise.
