Carolina Hurricanes vs. Philadelphia Flyers prediction, p...

Check out a prediction and top betting pick for Game 4 between the Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers in round two of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It’s been a dominant playoff run for the Carolina Hurricanes thus far, rattling off seven consecutive wins heading into the weekend. Now, they’re up three games on the Philadelphia Flyers with a chance to send their opponent packing for the offseason. Will the Canes’ keep rolling, or can Philly survive for another day to keep its season alive?

Here’s a Hurricanes vs. Flyers Game 4 prediction and pick for Saturday’s NHL Playoffs action on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Hurricanes vs. Flyers Game 4 prediction, preview

This series hasn’t even been close for the most part. Carolina took all three games with victories of 3-0, 3-2 in overtime, and 4-1. The total goal differential? That sits 11-3 in the Canes’ favor. Woof.

The first two matchups of the Hurricanes’ run through the Stanley Cup Playoff have been easier matchups, yes, but it’s become increasingly clear they’re not the same team we’ve seen in years past. They’re scoring 3.00 goals per game, which may not sound impressive but has been quite good in the context of facing a couple of defense-minded teams. They’re still pouring on the shot attempts as well, averaging 33.0 shots on goal per contest. All this success has come despite a PP% of just 14.7%, a far cry from their regular-season mark. Holding opponents to just 1.14 goals per game in this run is also a plainly absurd statistic — the play of Frederik Andersen and his astounding .957 SV% and 1.02 GAA is enough to shut down just about any attack. At 10.9 goals saved above expected, he leads all postseason goalies in the statistic.

Look at the Flyers on the other side now. They nearly made quick work of the Penguins in round one before ending the series in six games, but they’re facing a real uphill battle now against a far superior opponent. It’s a night-and-day difference in statistical results with Philadelphia now averaging only 2.11 goals per game on low volume of 25.4 shots a night. While the Flyers typically kept opposing sides’ shooting in check during the regular season, their numbers have ticked in the wrong direction to 28.3 shots allowed per contest, though they’re conceding just 2.33 goals overall this postseason. The offense can’t find much room to work though, and unless Dan Vladar is at the top of his game after recording a .921 SV% and 2.11 GAA in the playoffs so far, it’s highly unlikely they’ll keep this close.

Hurricanes vs. Flyers Game 4 pick, best bet

DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Hurricanes as -192 favorites to win on the road on the Moneyline tonight, while the Flyers come in with +160 odds at home. The game total sits at 5.5 combined goals.

Betting splits show 79% of straight bets on Carolina to win, 66% of wagers on the Hurricanes to cover the -1.5 puck line, and 54% on the total’s under.

The Flyers have a shot since they’re in front of the home crowd tonight, but it’s tough to see a world in which they keep this series alive. A much more likely reality is that the Canes suck the energy out of the building with an early goal and maintain a lead throughout the evening, especially with how their defense has stifled opponents through their first seven playoff games. Andersen is on fire between the pipes and they’ve gotten contributions from plenty of guys on offense, so I do think this should be a victory for the visitors. Carolina is clearly the better team here by a couple of miles, and that’s even without the power play clicking at the same rate as in the regular season. In short, the Hurricanes should punch a ticket to the Eastern Conference Final tonight.

Best bet: CAR Hurricanes -1.5 (+136)
