Breaking down the Flyers vs. Penguins matchup with our Game 6 prediction and pick for the 2026 NHL Playoffs first round.
The Flyers will host the Penguins on Wednesday night in Game 6 of the first round of the 2026 NHL Playoffs, with first puck drop set for 7:30 p.m. ET. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Philadelphia is a -122 home favorite on the Moneyline, and the game’s total is set at O/U 5.5 goals.
Philadelphia holds a 3-2 series lead, and below, I’ll provide a prediction and pick Flyers vs. Penguins Game 6.
The Penguins have won back-to-back elimination games, but how much does this aging roster have left in the tank? Philadelphia handled the first three games of the series, thanks to its young and speedy core that simply outmatched Pittsburgh. Now, the playoff experience has come into the picture, with Sidney Crosby leading the way with five points across the last three games. The goaltending switch to Arturs Silovs has worked well for Pittsburgh, too, as he sports a 2.00 GAA and .920 SV% across his past two starts. I think the physical toll will certainly catch up to the Penguins in Game 6. The club is losing the 5v5 battle and has only converted 3-of-17 power play opportunities in this series.
While Philadelphia has dropped back-to-back games, it isn’t as if it got blown out or didn’t keep up. Both games were going to be one-score outcomes, if not for an empty netter in Game 4, which put the Penguins up 4-2. The Flyers have generated a 66.7% 5v5 goal percentage this postseason, and they rank sixth in 5v5 goals per 60. Dan Vladar sports a stellar 2.03 GAA and .914 SV%, and he ranks sixth in goals saved above expected this postseason. The goaltending matchup looks like a wash for the most part, but Silovs did struggle during the regular season, so I’d give Vladar the edge there. Plus, the Flyers are back at home, and I’d expect the fans to be extra rowdy to help the team advance to the next round.
Fatigue and physicality will affect the Penguins much more than they will the Flyers. Pittsburgh has lost each of its last five games as underdogs following a win, and the Philadelphia crowd is going to be rocking at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.
