Everything You Need to Know Before Cape Fear Episode 4
Let’s break down the latest plot developments during last week’s episode, ‘Phantom Sensations’:
- The episode started on an ominous note, with two strangers using the Bowdens’ pool. Tom came outside and made the pair leave, while reminding the trespassers that Georgia is a stand your ground state.
- Meanwhile, Anna is trying to track down the mysterious “AngelX” that’s been chatting with Zach online. She has a sneaking suspicion that it’s Max in disguise. Pretending to be Zach, Anna manages to get the virtual girlfriend’s number, while impersonating her son.
- Upon meeting AngelX, Anna discovers that it’s not Max, but teenager Nevaeh Valentine. Anna snatches Nevaeh’s ID and quickly takes a picture, confirming her identity. Then, she tells the girl into sending Zach a breakup message and threatens to report her for selling drugs. Still, Nevaeh is adamant that she doesn’t know who Max is.
- As if things couldn’t get any crazier, Anna comes downstairs the next day to see Zach in the kitchen with Max. To boot, there’s a camera crew looking to film a documentary on Mr. Cady. He asks her to let them shoot footage, then get the pair of them together in Atlanta. Reluctantly, Anna agrees to let them shoot some footage at her house and at SJLP headquarters in Atlanta. Getting close to Max might be the best way to prevent him from targeting her family.
- At work, Anna represents Max in a legal battle involving the attack he suffered in prison. Her hardline stance ends up getting the ex-convict a lucrative four million dollar deal. Before the two sides leave, Max poses for a picture with the opposing lawyer. As the pair smile for the camera, Max menacingly grabs the attorney’s testicles under the table.
- In Savannah, Natalie goes to a friend’s party. There, a video of her doing yoga is suddenly sent to every member of the party. As members of the party start laughing at Natalie, none other than Nevaeh arrives and throws someone’s phone into a pool. However, Zach’s ex-girlfriend is going by the name Amber. As the girls get to talking, Nevaeh convinces Natalie to just let go and have some fun. She gives her some drugs, and the two begin making out.
- Rain has made it difficult for Anna and Max to leave Atlanta. As a result, the pair spend the night in separate rooms at a motel. She has a strange encounter with a woman wearing a surgical mask and holding a dog collar, searching for Max. She then runs into another room, immediately followed by loud screaming.
- Later in the night, Anna and Max share some coffee at a diner. He’s grateful for her held with securing the settlement, but it also isn’t enough to make up for 17 years behind bars. Anna doesn’t admit to having sabotaged his case, but it appears the two have come to some level of understanding. She does say that if they could go back in time, she wouldn’t advise Max to take any plea deal.
- Back at the Bowden residence, Tom invites co-worker Lexi to work at his house that night. There, he slips a mysterious substance into their drinks and eventually starts kissing her. Unbeknownst to the two, Zach can see them from upstairs. To boot, he saw Tom slip those drops into their drinks. Anna then calls to say that she’ll actually be able to return home that night.
- To end Episode Three, Max comes home to a pair of mysterious packages, one of which has the words “Play Me” written on it. Upon putting the video in, he sees the same woman from the hotel that knocked on Anna’s door. She films herself singing, which puts Max in a fit of rage and pain. He begins screaming, then opens the other package: a dog collar. Cady proceeds to destroy his television in one last act of anger.
Two quick notes after this week’s episode:
- The woman on video (named Tabitha) is portrayed by Juliette Lewis, who played Danielle Bowden during 1992’s Cape Fear.
- Francesca Scorsese, daughter of Martin Scorsese, appears in a brief cameo as a pro-Max TikToker. The film legend is not only an executive producer for this miniseries, but he also directed the 1992 version.
