Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Los Angeles Dodgers at San Diego Padres ($10,800) — The strikeout rate is down 4.8% from last season, but the walk rate has also decreased 3.7%, so the K-BB% is still in the 20% range. The FIP of 3.3 is higher than the 2.65 ERA because the BABIP is only .227. The barrel rate is 6.6% while the average exit velocity is 88.2 mph. Yamamoto has put up double-digit FPTS in all but two starts this season, with eight over 20 and two over 30 FPTS. He faces a San Diego team that is eighth in strikeouts, 25th in ISO and dead-last in both wOBA and wRC+.
Slade Cecconi, Cleveland Guardians vs. Seattle Mariners ($6,600) — I’m not enamored with any of the cheap options on this slate, which is normally the status quo. They are often cheap for a reason! So Cecconi it is. A ringing endorsement! Cecconi has a 4.46 FIP and 10.7% K-BB% through 84.1 innings. He does have six games with fewer than 10 FPTS on the season and gone over 20 FPTS just twice. Over the last nine games, though, he’s pitched at least five innings in seven of those contest while going over 10 FPTS seven times.
Luis Garcia Jr., Washington Nationals at Baltimore Orioles ($4,000) — Garcia has 13 home runs, 34 runs, 49 RBI and two stolen bases in 259 plate appearances. The strikeout rate is only 15.8% while the ISO is .231. The average exit velocity is 92.1 mph while the bat speed is 73.5 mph. Eleven of the 13 home runs have come off righties. Brandon Young has as 4.77 FIP and 1.2% K-BB% against lefties.
Brooks Lee, Minnesota Twins vs. Colorado Rockies ($3,200) — Lee has 13 home runs, 38 runs, 45 RBI and four stolen bases in 309 plate appearances. The strikeout rate is only 15.5% while the ISO is .191. The average exit velocity is only 87.6 mph, barrel rate is only 4.6% and the bat speed is only 70.1 mph. That said, against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 117 with a .224 ISO. Ten of the 13 home runs have come against righties. Michael Lorenzen has a 6.05 FIP and 10% K-BB% against lefties. Nine of the 13 home runs allowed have come off the bat of a lefty.
James Wood, Washington Nationals at Baltimore Orioles ($6,000) — Wood strikes out a lot – 30.1%. But he also has a 16% walk rate and .251 ISO. Through 382 plate appearance, he’s racked up 20 home runs, 70 runs, 49 RBI and 13 stolen bases. The average exit velocity is 95.5 mph, barrel rate is 23.3% and the bat speed is 76.5 mph. Against right-handed pitching, the wRC+ is 161 with a .273 ISO. Fifteen of the 20 home runs have come off a righty. Young has as 4.77 FIP and 1.2% K-BB% against lefties.
Victor Bericoto, San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves ($2,100) — Bericoto was called up on May 22. Since then, he’s appeared in 15 games and accrued 26 plate appearances. The strikeout rate is 34.6% with a 0% walk rate, but the ISO is .346! He has three home runs over that span. The average exit velocity is 91.5 mph with a 17.6% barrel rate and 75 mph bat speed. The wRC+ against right-handed pitching is 235 with a .750 ISO, as two of the three home runs have come off righties. Five of the 10 home runs allowed by Bryce Elder have come against righties, who have slashed .304/.338/.452 against him.
