Among skaters with 50+ minutes of ice time this postseason, Guentzel ranks fifth in assists per 60 and has notched at least one in all but one game. He is tied for the third-most assists this postseason (6) and is leading the Lightning in points thus far. The 31-year-old has plenty of playoff experience, and he’ll likely need to continue his elite playmaking with Tampa Bay facing elimination tonight in Game 6. This Lightning team is one of this generation’s powerhouses, and the club is more than capable of locking in and forcing a Game 7. Guentzel ranks second on the team in minutes of ice time among forwards, behind only Brandon Hagel, the club’s leading goal scorer this postseason.
I am expecting another lower-scoring game between these teams, but it’s hard to ignore Boston’s production from the first line. The Bruins switched up the lines a bit prior to Game 5, moving 23-year-old Marat Khusnutdinov to the first line alongside Pavel Zacha and David Pastrnak. That line generated a 78.6% xGoals% in Game 5, with Pastrnak scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. Zacha has failed to notch a point in each of the past three games, but he found success during the regular season against this Sabres team. Plus, he was a cash cow at home during the regular season, notching a point in 29-of-42 home games. Boston’s production has been very top-heavy in this series, and I’m more than willing to back a player sharing a line with Pastrnak, who leads the team with six points this postseason.
It’d be foolish to fade the prop that I’ve cashed in each of the first five games of this series. Guenther has unlocked a new level of offensive aggression in his first taste of playoff hockey, averaging 5.2 shots on goal and 11.0 shot attempts per game, compared to 3.1 shots on goal and 6.7 shot attempts per game during the regular season. Among all skaters this postseason, he ranks third in shots on goal per 60 and first in shot attempts per 60. Utah has its back against the wall tonight in Game 6, and Guenther will need to continue being aggressive offensively, especially with how poor Carter Hart has looked between the pipes.
