Will Warren, New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles, $8,900 — In his third MLB season, Warren has leveled into the upper echelon. Last season, he pitched 162.1 innings and posted a 4.07 FIP with a 24.1% strikeout rate and 14.9% K-BB%. Through 31.1 innings this season, the FIP is 2.77 while the strikeout rate is 28.7% with a 23.3% K-BB%. The barrel rate allowed is only 6% while the launch angle is 8.5 degrees. He faces a Baltimore team that is seventh in strikeouts. In his last two outings against Houston and Kansas City, Warren put up 20.7 and 34.8 FPTS.
Joey Cantillo, Cleveland Guardians at Athletics, $7,400 — Cantillo is a soft-tossing lefty that averages 91.8 mph on the fastball. But, but, but, the strikeout rate is a robust 27.2%. It’s been the changeup that’s done the most damage with a 46.8% whiff rate. Cantillo does have a high of 29.8 FPTS, but this is more of a price/floor play, as he’s finished with double-digit FPTS in every contest but only one above 20 FPTS.
Dalton Rushing, Los Angeles Dodgers at St. Louis Cardinals, $4,000 — Prospect hounds were always high on Rushing, but dinged him because playing time was thought to be an issue with Will Smith ahead of him on the depth chart. Life always finds a way. The cream always rises to the top. Hold up, the cliche factory lost power. Rushing has played 10 games at catcher, one at first base and two as the designated hitter. In those 52 plate appearances, he’s slashing .348/.423/.848 with a .500 ISO! The BABIP is .346, so he’s been lucky but the seven home runs are legit. The average exit velocity is 92.1 mph, launch angle is 24.6 degrees and the barrel rate is 15.2%. He’s only had 15 plate appearances against left-handed pitching, but they have been successful ones with a 191 wRC+, .286 ISO and five hits, which includes one home run. Matthew Liberatore has a 6.38 FIP, 5.9% K-BB% and 91.5 average exit velocity. Lefties have tagged him for four of the eight home runs served up on the season.
Vaughn Grissom, Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Mets, $2,800 — It’s only been 47 plate appearances, but Grissom is balling out! He’s slashing .342/.413/.526 with a .184 ISO. The walk rate is 12.8% while the strikeout rate is a minuscule 6.4%. The bat speed has increased from 69.1 mph last season to 71.6 mph this season. There’s only been two games in which Grissom failed to produce fantasy goodies while he’s put up double-digit FPTS in four of the last five games.
Chase DeLauter, Cleveland Guardians at Athletics, $4,400 — DeLauter is having quite the start to his rookie campaign. Throughout the minor leagues, he showed excellent plate discipline, as the strikeout rate never went above 18%. Through 116 plate appearances, the strikeout rate is 11.2% with a 12.1% walk rate and .228 ISO! He has hit five home runs, all off righties. Against lefties, J.T. Ginn has a 9.1% K-BB% with a 5.97 FIP. Three of the four home runs allowed have come off the bat of lefties.
Brandon Marsh, Philadelphia Phillies at Miami Marlins, $3,300 — Marsh is mainly on the strong side of a platoony loony. All four home runs have come off the bat of right-handed pitching while the ISO is .219 and the wRC+ is a robust 142. Eury Perez is allowing a 90 mph average exit velocity with a 14.9% barrel rate. Lefties are slashing .273/.364/.439 with two home runs.
