Alex Hunter details his best NBA player prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Wednesday’s NBA playoff game between the Lakers and Rockets.
The Lakers are hosting the Rockets for Game 5 of this first-round series Wednesday. The Lakers lead this series 3-1 and can advance with a win. On DraftKings Sportsbook, Los Angeles is favored by 4.5 points and this game carries a total of 208.5 points.
Let’s dive into three of my favorite player prop bets for tonight’s contest.
James should have no issues topping 7.5 assists tonight. The veteran just dished out nine assists in Game 4 vs. the Rockets and Austin Reaves (oblique) is expected to make his return tonight. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic (hamstring) remains out, keeping James as the Lakers’ primary playmaker. James and Reaves have played six games together with Doncic inactive this season and James finished with double-digit assists in all but one of these games, including two performances of 12 assists.
With Doncic off the floor, but Reaves on, James is averaging 9.8 assists per 36 minutes. The future Hall-of-Famer has finished with at least nine assists in five of his last eight and betting up the ladder with James tonight has a ton of merit, as Los Angeles looks to close out Houston.
James didn’t score in the opening three minutes of Game 4, but he had scored at least 2 points in six straight before this. Reaves is expected back tonight, but Doncic remains unavailable and the six James and Reaves have played together without Doncic this season, James is leading the Lakers with 2.5 PPG and a 30.7% usage rate in the first three minutes.
In these six games, James has scored at least two points in the first three minutes four times. Plus, the veteran has scored at least two points in the first three minutes of five of his seven matchups vs. the Rockets this season.
Eason should continue to start in place of Kevin Durant (ankle) tonight, giving him a terrific chance to rack up steals. As Durant’s replacement in the first unit for the last two, Eason has been a menace on defense, posting four and five steals.
Eason logged 40 and 30 regulation minutes in these past two and for the 21 occasions he has logged over 30 minutes this season, Eason is averaging 1.8 steals per game. The veteran ranks second in plus/minus for the Rockets this postseason, so the big minutes for Eason should continue tonight and he should remain a big factor on the defensive end.
