Blake Krass breaks down his first round leader picks and best bets for the 2026 Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.
Following the U.S. Open and golf’s hardest test at Shinnecock Hills, the PGA TOUR is now headed to Cromwell, Connecticut, for the Travelers Championship.
This is a look at the best first-round leader bets to make for the event on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Travelers Championship is the next event on the PGA TOUR calendar. After players battled one of the toughest courses in golf at Shinnecock, they will not get to make up for all the birdies they didn’t register last week. TPC River Highlands is one of the easiest courses on the PGA TOUR calendar. This is a signature event, which means there will be 72 players in the field, and there will be no cut after Friday’s round. This is a stacked field, with 49 of the top 50 players in the OWGR in competition. The only notable absence is Rory McIlroy, who is choosing not to play this week.
TPC River Highlands is a par-70 course that ranges 6,844 yards. This is one of the shortest courses on the PGA TOUR. That allows the longer hitters to use less-than-driver off the tee and avoid the penal rough, while still setting up easy approach shots into the greens. There will be plenty of birdies this week, but that also sets up for an exciting battle with such a great field. Keegan Bradley is the defending champion, while Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele are also past winners at this event.
After starting the season with an injury, it took a while for Justin Thomas to get going. However, he has now finished in the top 20 at each of his past five events. That includes a T4 at the PGA Championship and a T17 at the U.S. Open. Thomas should ride his momentum into Connecticut and put on a good showing. This is a course where Thomas has played great golf recently. In each of his past three starts at TPC River Highlands, Thomas has finished inside the top 10. Thomas should use his experience at this course and take advantage of the attackable Par 4s. He should avoid bogeys because of his great chipping prowess around the greens and give himself plenty of birdie looks. That is a recipe for going low on Thursday and having a great chance to be the first-round leader.
This number is simply too high on Brian Harman. Harman played well at Shinnecock last week, despite ultimately finishing T37. That was never a great course fit for Harman due to the length, but he did many things well. Harman has performed the best this season at Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass, courses with some similar challenges to TPC River Highlands. Any course where length is not a serious factor plays right into Harman’s hands. He can get the ball into good positions off the tee on this course and use his great wedge game to attack these pins.
This is a course where Brian Harman has played amazing golf throughout his career. Ignoring his first three career starts at this event, he has finished in the top 10 in eight of his past 11 starts here. That includes a third-place finish and a T2 finish. In fact, Harman has finished inside the top 10 in each of his past five starts at the Travelers Championship. This is a course that plays to all of Harman’s strengths, and he should be able to take advantage of the great scoring conditions here.
