Blake Krass gives his pick and prediction for Sunday’s English Premier League match between Liverpool and Manchester United.
One of the best rivalries in sports ignites once again on Sunday when Liverpool travels to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United. Both clubs seem locked into Champions League places for next year, but there is still a lot on the line for the massive rivalry match.
Manchester United are a +130 favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook for this one, with a draw available at +280. Liverpool are +190 to pull off the upset and take all three points.
Here is my prediction and pick for the Premier League tilt between Liverpool and Manchester United.
Liverpool have had a disappointing title defense season. The Reds went through a massive rough patch in the middle of the season, which they have actually bounced back well from. They were disappointingly knocked out of both the FA Cup and the Champions League, but the Premier League results have turned around. The Reds have won three straight Premier League matches and now sit in fourth place, level on points with fifth-place Aston Villa. However, they are seven points clear with a game in hand over sixth-place Brentford. It would take a total disaster for Liverpool to drop out of the Champions League places now. That gives them little to play for over the final four games of the season, other than pride and momentum to take into next season.
Michael Carrick has brilliantly turned things around at Manchester United. The Red Devils were in absolute disarray when they decided to sack Ruben Amorim in January. Michael Carrick came in as a caretaker, but has done much more than that. He has won nine of his 13 games in charge of the club and has Manchester United positioned to get back into the Champions League. United sit third place in the Prem table, three points ahead of Liverpool and Aston Villa. They are all but guaranteed to finish in that top five, achieving their goal of playing in the Champions League next season. Bruno Fernandes has had a brilliant season, along with new additions Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
My best bet for this match is for Liverpool and Manchester United to combine for over 3.5 goals. Other than the absent Hugo Ekitike, who tore his Achilles tendon a couple of weeks ago, Liverpool showed what its new attack was supposed to look like. Alexander Isak scored a nice goal, and so did fellow summer 2025 signing Florian Wirtz. The Reds have plenty of attacking firepower at their disposal. Where they are more vulnerable is at the back, as they are likely to start third-choice goalkeeper Freddie Woodman once again. Manchester United should be able to score goals with the attacking group of Fernandes, Mbuemo, Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
These two clubs are both virtually locked into Champions League places for next year and are out of all other competitions. That means they have nothing to play for in this match other than immense pride. This is one of the great rivalries in all of sport, and both managers would love to hang their hat on this win. Arne Slot’s job is in jeopardy after such a disappointing season and Michael Carrick is trying to prove that he should be made permanent manager of Manchester United. The approach of both sides should be ultra-aggressive, pushing to win the match and score goals.
