ZT breaks down his top player props to consider for Sunday Night Baseball’s matchup between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Sunday Night Baseball wraps up another huge NL East series between the Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves rolled into Citizens Bank Park and won the first two games of the series, and they’ll look to finish a sweep on Sunday Night Baseball. The Braves are slightly favored at -108 with the over/under at eight runs. One way to get a piece of the action in this 7:20 p.m. ET primetime matchup is by finding a few player prop bets that are strong plays in the contest.
For each Major League Baseball matchup, DraftKings Sportsbook has a wide variety of batter and pitcher props on the board. Let’s take a look at my top three best bets for this Sunday Night Baseball contest on NBC and Peacock.
The Phillies will look to rookie starting pitcher Andrew Painter to be the stopper after four straight losses. Painter was among the team’s top prospects for several years but injury slowed his climb to the majors. This year, the 23-year-old has allowed six runs on 16 hits, but he has 16 strikeouts as well in his 14 1/3 innings. In his two games at home, he racked up 15 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings.
The Braves have done a good job with just a 19.7% K%, the third-lowest in the majors, but they still average 7.6 strikeouts per game. If Painter works five or six solid innings, he has a good chance to get at least five strikeouts. He had eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings in his first home start of the year, and he had seven strikeouts in five innings last Sunday in his most recent appearance.
Although Painter should be able to get over his strikeout prop, Acuna has been hot enough to also play on the other side of the matchup to get multiple total bases. In his 21 games, he has 30 total bases (1.4 total bases per game). Acuna has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games with 2.2 total bases per game over that 10-game span.
Acuna has a 45.3% hard-hit rate and a 15.6% barrel rate in the early going this season, and he is thriving from the top of the order while helping the Braves to their impressive 14-7 start to the season. As the leadoff hitter, he fuels the offense in so many ways, and he has multiple paths to get 2+ total bases on Sunday night.
While the Phillies’ offense has been inconsistent this season, Harper has been productive with a total of 41 HRR (hits, runs and RBI) in his 20 games (2.05 HRR per game) this season. Harper is 20-for-74 (.270) with five doubles, a triple and four homers.
Harper and the Phillies were shut out on Saturday night by Chris Sale, but he had three hits on Friday to go over this prop. He homered on Wednesday and has gone over this prop in six of his eight games on this home stand.
In the finale, he’ll be taking on Grant Holmes of the Braves, against whom he is 0-for-0 with a pair of walks in the past. Holmes has been good against lefties this season, but last year, lefties had a .315 wOBA against Holmes, which could set up well for Harper on Sunday night if he and the Phillies can get their offense in gear Sunday night.
If you’re looking to add even more juice to your SGP or props this Sunday night, check out my top home run props, which also include a play from this contest.
