Zach Thompson dives into Saturday night’s eight-game MLB slate to find three value options for your DraftKings lineups.
On Saturday night, Major League Baseball has a solid eight-game fantasy baseball slate with some marquee matchups continuing that could feature potential playoff previews. The action starts at 7:05 p.m. ET with the first pitch in Texas, and the 16-team player pool is packed with plenty of star power, both on the mound and in the batter’s box. As you assemble your squad, you may run short of salary cap space, though, so let’s take a look at some of the strong MLB DFS Value Picks who offer good upside and potential production even though they are available at affordable salaries.
The weather is sketchy for several MLB matchups this afternoon, but the evening slate looks mostly safe. There could be a few sprinkles in Kansas City, but unless something changes, a postponement looks very unlikely.
Let’s dive in and take a look at a few of the best value plays from the 16 teams in the player pool this Saturday night.

The Pirates are in San Francisco for a weekend set by the Bay, and Ashcraft will make his start on Saturday night at pitcher-friendly Oracle Park. Ashcraft is my top value play from under $8,000 of the probable pitchers on Saturday’s slate. In his first full season in the majors, the 26-year-old Ashcraft is 1-2 with a 3.02 ERA and 2.99 FIP in 41 2/3 innings.
He has racked up 45 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings and has at least five strikeouts in each of his last six appearances. He had one bad outing this year, giving up six runs in 4 1/3 innings against the Cardinals. He bounced back from that matchup with a dominant performance in his most recent start, though, striking out six in 7 2/3 shutout innings against the Reds, allowing just four hits and two walks in a no-decision. Even without the win, he earned 25.7 FPTS, giving him at least 18 FPTS in five of his last six starts.
The Giants are a favorable spot for Ashcraft since they have scored the fewest runs in the majors this season with a 81 wRC+ that indicates they are 19% below league average as a team at run creation. They have hit .241 as a team but only have 24 home runs with the lowest wOBA and the second-lowest ISO in the majors.
Even though he’s under $8,000, Ashcraft has a good shot to deliver 20+ FPTS, which would make him a top option in Saturday’s MLB DFS picks.
Duran has stepped into a regular role in the Rangers’ lineup, with outfielder Wyatt Langford (forearm) and second baseman Josh Smith (glute) on the injured list. He has hit second in the order for the last three games and moved from 2B to the outfield in each of the last two games. In his last eight games, Duran is 10-for-26 (.385) with three doubles, a triple, a home run and a stolen base.
Duran has averaged 10.9 FPTS in those eight games, and for the year, he is now hitting a solid .301 with a .379 wOBA and an impressive 141 wRC+. Duran had at least 18 FPTS in each of his three games this week against the Yankees, and he’ll look to keep it going on Saturday against Edward Cabrera ($7,400), who has a 4.00 FIP and 1.28 WHIP this season and isn’t an option that has to be avoided.
Vierling is another bargain play with a hot bat, typically hitting near the top of the lineup for the Tigers. Vierling is only hitting .226 for the season, but he has hit either first or second in each of his team’s last five games. In his last seven games, he went 8-for-27 (.296) with three doubles and a home run. He had 17 FPTS on Tuesday against the Red Sox and has at least 5 FPTS in each of his five games since moving to near the top of the order.
On Saturday, Vierling and the Tigers visit Michael Wacha ($7,900) and the Royals. Wacha had been struggling with 10 runs against him in 10 1/3 innings in back-to-back starts, but he righted the ship with a good outing against the Guardians on Monday. Wacha has pitched to a lot of contact this season, though, and with Vierling in a good lineup spot, he has the potential to be a great value in Saturday’s MLB DFS picks.
