Griffin Wong gives his best anytime goalscorer bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Wednesday’s FIFA World Cup slate.
The 2026 World Cup’s first week is coming to an end, and with it, the end of the first match day has arrived. By the end of tonight, every team will have taken the pitch once, as Groups K and L will play their opening matches of the tournament. Portugal and DR Congo will open the action at 1 p.m. ET, followed by England and Croatia at 4 p.m. ET, Ghana and Panama at 7 p.m. ET, and Colombia and Uzbekistan at 10 p.m. ET.
With some of the world’s most talented attackers in action, there are plenty of options to choose from in the anytime goal scorer markets. Below, I’ve broken down my two favorite bets from Wednesday’s action at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Cristiano Ronaldo (-135) has the shortest odds in this match, as he’ll start up front in the Seleçao das Quinas’ lone-striker formation, but Portugal’s strength is really its midfield. While Ronaldo scored five goals in five matches to lead the team in qualifying, Fernandes (three goals) wasn’t far behind, and he’s coming off of a Premier League Player of the Season campaign in which he had nine goals and a record 21 assists. He also scored the eventual winner in the Seleçao das Quinas’ friendly against Chile. Meanwhile, DR Congo is one of the better defensive teams in Africa, but its midfield is extremely weak, Sunderland CDM Noah Sadiki aside. I’m also not sold by goalie Lionel Mpasi, who doesn’t start for Ligue 1 side Le Havre. The Leopards ranked in merely the middle of the pack in fouls per 90 minutes during AFCON, and Fernandes will likely be Portugal’s primary free-kick taker.
Díaz was utterly unstoppable in his first season with Bayern Münich, scoring 26 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions and creating arguably the world’s most dangerous front three alongside Harry Kane and Michael Olise. He also scored seven goals in 17 matches during COMNEBOL qualifying for Colombia. Díaz should have a decent matchup against Uzbekistan; the White Wolves are one of the best defensive teams in Asia, but they sit back in a 5-4-1 and should allow Los Cafeteros to control the vast majority of the possession. Given enough opportunities, Díaz should definitely convert; he averaged 0.33 goals per shot on target during South American qualifiers and 0.41 goals per shot on target in the Bundesliga. Plus, he starts on the left wing, and right-back Farrukh Sayfiev has the lowest transfer market value on Uzbekistan’s entire roster. The White Wolves also gave up two penalties against the Netherlands in their most recent friendly, and Díaz should be Colombia’s primary penalty taker.
