Odds: -105 | Opponent: Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox are spiraling out of control. They only managed to take one of three games against the Rockies when they easily could have swept. Now, they’ll head back to Fenway Park for a four-game series against the Yankees. Connelly Early will be on the mound for the Red Sox and he has not pitched well at home. Through 37.1 innings, he owns a 4.82 ERA with a .354 wOBA, a 4.84 FIP and six of the 14 home runs he’s allowed. Righties in particular have tormented him at Fenway, tagging him for a .407 wOBA, a 5.95 FIP and all six of those home runs. This Yankees lineup is also excellent against the four-seam fastball, which he’s throwing 42% of the time. Tonight’s expected lineup has a combined .325 wOBA with a .208 ISO against that pitch.
Odds: +102 | Opponent: Washington Nationals
Cade Cavalli is taking the hill for the Nationals tonight in a matchup against the Phillies. I’m targeting Harper to record at least two total bases, as we’re getting this at +102. Harper has been on a major power streak this month, as nine of his 20 hits have gone for extra bases. Overall against righties this season, Harper has a .327 ISO with a .434 wOBA and a 178 wRC+. After a solid start to the season, Cavalli has stumbled in the month of June, posting a 5.60 ERA with a .368 wOBA and three of the six home runs he’s allowed. He’s also allowing a 42% hard-hit rate, which is a huge jump from his average of 33% for the season.

This is one of those bets where I’ll look like a genius if it works out or an idiot if it doesn’t. Miller has been excellent since making his season debut just over a month ago. He’s posted a 1.58 ERA with an xERA of 2.15 and a 2.95 FIP. Not exactly stats you see and think “Oh, I’m going to target against this guy.” But, one thing I did notice was his outs total today, relative to what he’s completed thus far. At 17.5 outs, Miller needs to go six innings for this bet to lose. Of his seven appearances, this has only happened twice. The Pirates expected lineup for today is extremely patient, as they combine just under a 10% BB%. That means they’re willing to take some pitches and drive up the pitch count. They also are very good against the four-seam fastball, which Miller throws more than half the time. The Pirates have a .384 wOBA with a .192 ISO against that pitch. At +113, II think this is worth the play for a bet that’s hit five times.
